Great people, great location, great help when needed. All around great experience. Excellent excellent staff. My husband and I couldn't have been more pleased. We could rely on the people working there for any and all of our needs and answers to our questions. All we had to do was enjoy our vacation. (Which we did. Immensely ).
Everything from a post office to a drug store to a church to the beach was within easy walking distance. Plus it was perfectly safe. We would love for the rest of our family to visit and stay there.
We stayed at Winchester Mansions for our week long stay in Cape Town and thoroughly enjoyed it. We didn't get a sea view but considering the noise of crashing waves from the hotel's front I wouldn't say that was necessarily a bad thing! We had a 'mountain view' instead, still a very good room.
The front desk staff were great and always keen to help or advise (the free shuttle to the V&A Waterfront was really useful), the restaurant is of high standard and the hotel bar is a popular haunt for locals looking for a few drinks after work. The room decor could perhaps do with a little updating but was still good and, if anything we felt we were being 'over-serviced' ... a lot of staff tasked with cleaning rooms and serving in the restaraunt!
The best thing about the hotel is it's look and feel, by far the prettiest in Sea Point. The open courtyard and external corridors give it a really clasy feel inside as does the view when looking back towards it from the sea front.
The location is pretty good, taxis into the centre of town or down to Camps Bay are relatively cheap and, if need be, the front desk will arrange for the driver to take you if he's available (similar price). The free shuttle to the V&A Waterfront is great though, came in very useful.
All in all, a very pleasant place to stay ... but what is the golf putting equipment in the corridors about, really?
This is a lovely appartement with nice sea views but the noise factor was unbearable . The complex is on one of the major roads into the CBD. The large balcony with spa and beautiful views was not used as it was impossible to have a conversation without yelling at each other. To make matters worth on the otherside of the complex was a building site where a house was being pulled down.
The second large downfall was the lack of WiFI access.
If you happy to be without WIFI and half deaf then this is certainly a great place to stay. But in view of all the above I do think it is overpriced.
We booked here for a week but ended up extending for another 5 nights on top of that, as we loved it so much. The hosts Frank & Simon can't do enough to make sure that the stay is a real home from home experience. The property is beautifully maintained, the rooms are clean and we felt very secure here. There is a fantastic buffet breakfast every morning with many fresh fruits, cheese, cold meats, bread rolls, toast, cereals, fruit juice and yoghurts to go with your tea and coffee, together with the option to have freshly cooked bacon & eggs as well. Free wifi is a real added bonus. There is a beautiful pool and much outdoor seating in the lovely garden area. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else next time we come to Cape Town and we can't recommend this accommodation highly enough.

Nice place to stay. We stayed in one of the Victorian Villas opposite the main guesthoust building and really enjoyed it. If you stay in one of the villas you have your own private room with bathroom and you share the kitchen, living room and patio with guests of the 2nd room. It is a very friendly set up and you help yourself to beers in the fridge (you just write down what you have taken so they can bill it to your room) and free tea and coffee (you can cook your meals if you want to). The Villas are lovely with wooden floors and nicely decorated and very clean. Although it is about a 20/30 minute walk to the waterfront, there are buses or shared taxis you can take for 50 pence and the area is very safe. We walked around at night without any problems.
