“Very relaxed and enjoyable place to stay.”
The location and surrounding area made this an extremely nice and relaxing place to stay with lots to do and places to explore. Also any of the places we went to for dinner had good food with plenty of choice.
“Sloppy Service”
Customer service eludes staff, definitely not 4 star quality!
“It is what it is”
The Highland is based on a complex almost as big as the town itself. The resort has a central reception and the Highland is in the block furthest from the entry road. The room was okay but didn't come with most of the amenities it was supposed to as listed on both hotel and Expedia website. No DVD player, CD player, premuim TV channels etc. Not what you'd expect from supposed 4 star. Bed was good though and we didn't spend too much time in the room to be bothered by lack of 'gadgets'. Breakfast was excellent buffet-style though busy. We also didn't use the gym / pool but they looked quite good, and instead prefered to just walk the 5 mins into the village. Also we used the town's pubs and restaurants rather than those in the hotel.
“will not go back”
very untidy hotel
“Expect it as a 3.5 stars...”
Services and food are great but the condition of the carpet let it down. The cook breakfast was very nice... service was good, except we have to queue up for awhile to be seated. The hotel provided us a cotbed for our 7 momths old baby. Well organised with very polite staff. The only down side of the hotel is I think they need a bit refurbishment. Regarding the room number and facilities, for sure it is a 4 starts hotel. However, I was kinda expecting a LCD TV and morden interior rather than old carpet which may not be too dirty but do not look very clean. We had a present stay in the hotel and managed to use the swimming pool for baby's first swimming experience. We would like to go back and stay there again.
“Very Satisfied”
Nice central location in Aviemore not too far from railway station and other facilities. Friendly reception. Room reasonable size, clean, king size bed tea/coffee making facility. Iron and iron board in room. Bathroom was a bit on the tight side but plenty of towels. Breakfast was buffet style help yourself with plenty of cooked options. Fried eggs made to order. Plenty of fresh fruit and serial options. Tea/coffee and toast served to table. We had very pleasant stay. We were going to a wedding and asked if we could book in earlier which was no problem to the hotel.
“Wouldn't stay here again”
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. On arrival at the resort and having read other reviews we checked in at main reception then when we arrived at our hotel we found out that we could have checked in at hotel we were staying at. Found room, an Executive room, and was greeted by a very musty smell when opening the door, left our luggage and went out to explore area and on our return the smell was still there. We contacted hotel reception and they did move us to another room, but would have thought that this being a 4 star hotel we wouldn't have encountered this problem. Following morning we had no hot water to shower. Breakfast was terrible. Have stayed in better 3 star hotels.
“Great deal.”
Excellent weekend in all respects: comfortable room, good food & superb service. Great deal - would definitely recommend !
“100 times BETTER than other reviews I've read!!”
The hotel exceeded expectations simply because of the neutral/negaitve reviews I had read prior to my trip. Yes, check-in was in a main central building and yes we were staying in another building, but this reall was not the hardship that others have made out. Maybe if you don't lump all your bags in from the car to check-in, then this wouldn't have happened to others!! We were in the Highlands Hotel (out of the 4 resort hotels) which wa slocated at the back of the complex, but nicely attached to the leisure complex. We were also nicely away from the childrens facilities, in fact our hotel almost seemed like an adult only, apart form a few teenagers. The room was an adequate size, with 2 suitcases able to be laid on the floor (to dip in and out of) and it didnt seem overcrowded. TV was a bit dated and a few channels werent working an the shower was a bit weak, but generally the room was kept spotlessly clean and was nice and quiet with no fire alarms at all (as others again reported them as being every night!!). The hotel complex had a cinema and shopping complex, as well as a good few restaurants, although I can't comment on this (aprt from great hearty breakfasts!!) as we ate out every night due to the abundance of restaurants in Aviemore. The hotel was a few hundred meters form shops/restaurants, ideal! We will definitely return here as it was excellently located, freindly staff, good facitlties and all in all great value for money.
“Great resort for all”
Great hotel complex for all the family. The Highland Hotel great for couples. Rooms are spacious, lovely big comfortable beds. Little extra touches like complimentary bottles of water in room was nice. Resort amenities, pool, fitness centre, etc all great. Breakfast was fab, loads of choice, really lovely. Only thing I could complain about was that we had a do not disturb sign on the door but housekeeping came in anyway! Would recommend Academy for families and The Highland for couples. Aspects restaurant nice.
