An unspoilt ensemble of period architecture, Sarlat is one of Frances most enticing and photogenic towns. Crowds gather on market days (Wed. and Sat.) when stalls brim with Perigord specialities like foie gras and walnuts. Among its oldest buildings are the medieval cathedral belfry and the Lanterne des Morts tower. A stroll through the pedestrianised medieval core towards sundown is the best way to appreciate its mellow golden stonework.
