“fix the room temp please!”

historic hotel. looks amazing from the outside. no doorman. the beds were uncomfortable. the room temp was impossible to control. it got way too hot at night. and its late November! They did not even replace shampoo. not what I expected at all.

“Old World Charm”

Lovely old building with a heap of history. Rooms were large and clean. Recommended for your stay in Saratoga Springs. It is in a large park area next to a golf course so the environs are lovely.

“Rejuvenation at its best”

Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa (and surrounding Saratoga Springs State Park) was just the battery recharge I needed after a busy week of shopping, sightseeing and being on-the-go in New York City. The property is very charming and oozes character. I particularly enjoyed the white rocking chairs out the front of the hotel - true relaxation. The twin rooms are very spacious and well appointed. The Gideon Putnam hotel shuttle is a fantastic service for guests offering drop off and pick up to and from town, the racetrack, restaurants, train station or other local destination of your choice - the driver Keith has great local knowledge and recommended a wonderful coffee shop for me to visit. A visit to the hotel affliated Roosevelt Baths and Spa is highly recommended and during my stay guests of the hotel were entitled to $5.00 off a Mineral Bath Treatment on presentation of room key. All in all, a great trip upstate...I will revisit 100%

Rhinebeck also located in Upstate New York (Hudson Valley) is also worth an overnight visit.

When to go

July to September is "Track Season" which the Saratoga Raceway holdin daily race events (excluding Tuesday). Visit the track for breakfast from 7am and see the horse going through their warm ups....

“Perfect location”

The Gideon Putnam is in an absolutely perfect location, in a state park, surrounded by attractions such as a golf course, museums, and a spa. Plus it's only about a mile away from the Saratoga Race Course. It's an older property and the room could have used some freshening, but the employees were all friendly and helpful. I'd imagine it's probably even better when it's not racing season (less people).

Area recommendations

You can't beat staying in an historic building, next to a spa, in a state park.

When to go

Go during racing season if you like crowds and the best horse racing in the world.

“Great access to Saratoga”

Room recently refurbished and lovely. They did a great job retaining the character of the hotel and making it more comfortable. Shuttle to the Racetrack great. Able to walk daily in the park, walk to the performing arts center and spa. Had a great time. Wish they had bicycles.

“Classic gem in the heart of the State Park”

The Gideon has recently undergone a much-needed face lift. The rooms are nicely decorated and the furniture is comfortable. The lobby is also quite comfortable, and has lost the fussy old-fashioned look of yesteryear. My only complaint, which I passed on the management, is the pillows. These were hard, uncomfortable polyester or whatever pillows, that I had to beat into submission. Most hotels of this caliber have down pillows available on request, but not so the Gideon. Hopefully, that will change. The hotel has free wireless internet for guests, a bonus in today's nickel-and-dime the guest to death times. There's also a free shuttle to SPAC, the Roosevelt Baths Spa, and Downtown, though it's on a first-come, first-serve basis, and one might have to wait a while to be picked up, as we did when coming back from the spa. The Gideon is in the middle of the Saratoga Springs State Park, convenient to the Performing Arts Center and the Roosevelt Baths Spa, but too far to walk into downtown or the racetrack, so either use the shuttle or have a car at your disposal -- but beware, parking downtown on weekends and at the race track are challenging, so allow extra time where ever you're going.

“Great Historic venue”

Very restful and great location. Some deferred maintenance with older windows and some peeling paint. Hotel and restaurant staff very friendly.

“absolutely perfect and peaceful”

the historic charm took my breath away. this hotel is situated at the end of a long winding driveway that takes you through a forest. The updates blend beautifully with the history, maintaining its original charm without feeling stuffy. the front desk was very helpful in choosing a restaurant and the shuttle driver (available in an instant) loved telling us about the history of saratoga springs and the lovely town. definately going back when visiting saratoga springs!

“Very Nice Historic Hotel”

The property is around 75 years old and the area has harsh winters so I am sure it is a serious ongoing maintence chore. Both of our rooms had new carpet, furniture and bedding. It was very comfortable. We did eat at the restaurant which was good. I was very pleased.

Area recommendations

Saratoga Springs has numerous shopping experiences as well as several good restaurants. Probably around May the golf will get going and it looks to be pretty good.
