“Beautiful view, Fantastic staff”

We were in for a wedding being held at Dana Villas, and Cliff Side Suites is about a 30 second walk away. The hotels are all built into the cliff and overlap and intertwine with each other. It was a little bit hard to find the entrance, but once we knew where it was it was easy to get to. There were many shops and cafes on the pedestrian only street just outside. Ours was one of the only hotels (and even restaurants) that did not have a sign saying not to flush paper, and we found that to be a comfort more like home. Our room was bigger than we expected, and cute and cave-like. We had a patio that we shared with the room beside us, but most of the patios weren't occupied when we were out. The patio had two tables and 4 chairs, as well as 4 lounge chairs. Anything we needed, that staff was there with it right away, and with a smile. The cafe on the little road we spend a lot of time at was called Fresh, and has the best chocolate cake (with nutella spread in it) and spinach pies. There is a restaurant the staff at our hotel recommended called Mama Theira, just at the top of the cliff, and it was spectacular. We enjoyed everything about our stay, and had a very hard time leaving. My husband had expected from the pictures for the hotel to be a 5 star, and it probably is not, by north american standards, but most things there are slightly more rustic and down to basics. He was pleased with the hotel, and can't wait to go back.

Area recommendations
We traveled to Oia, for the sunset, which was so spectacular that you need to get a spot early, as the area is filled with many people waiting to take pictures. It is about a 20 minute drive away, you can rent an ATV or scooter, or you can catch a bus, and the bus stop is just outside the hotel. There are a lot of great shops here as well, and most are open quite late. There is a restaurant called Ambrosia, which overlooks the cliff and is just amazing. Firastefani is a 15 minute walk from the hotel, and is filled with shops, bars and restaurants. We went for the Stag and Stagette parties of the people who's wedding we were there for, and everyone had a fantastic time. Ancient Theira is also very close, and is great for people who are interested in history.
Getting there
When you arrive at the airport in Santorini, the hotel is about a 15 minute cab ride away. I would leave your bags at the top of the stairs, and the hotel staff will come and get them for you.
Getting around
There are a lot of stairs in this hotel and the ones surrounding it. It took a few days for our legs to get used to them! There is also a lot of cobblestone, so unless you are very steady on your feet, high heels are not the greatest idea.
What to pack
Shoes with a grippy sole are great, because some of the stone is worn quite smooth, and there are places that can be quite slippery. It does get quite cool in the evenings when the sun goes down, so I was happy to have a sweater and a pair of long pants.
Shopping
There are shops everywhere, in Firastefani, Oia, and pretty much everywhere else. Shop around before you buy something, because you can find many of the same items in different shops for different prices. You will also get a better price if you pay cash, and haggle a bit.
Dining
Ambrosia in Oia, Mama Theira and Fresh just outside the hotel, there are many great restaurants, just take a peek at the menu to see what they offer. They will usually charge you for bread, even if you don't ask for it, so if you don't want it, make sure to tell them. Some places will bring you water as well, and there is a cost for that.
Family-friendly activities
Ancient Theira is a bit of walking, and stairs, but children interested in history will like it. There are several beaches close by as well.
Nightlife
many nightclubs in Firastefani, you can walk from one to the other, and many places will give you cards for a free shooter when you buy a drink.

“Santorini Sunsets”

We felt these suites were centrally located - in terms of where we wanted to go and what we wanted to do. The view of the sunset each evening from our deck chairs was wonderful. The reception staff at was friendly and helpful - gave us good suggestions as to what we might like to do, where we might like to go, what we might like to eat.... The breakfast each day was nicely laid out, food was tasty. Our only concern was with maintenance - the bathroom had a cracked toilet seat which was noted by staff, but was not dealt with during our four day stay. Note: Staying here you must be able/prepared to do a lot of walking and be able to walk up and down many stairs each day.

Area recommendations
On the isalnd of Sanotini the area you chose to stay in should be based on what you would like to do while you are there. If you want to see the sunset each evening and enjoy the beautiful cliffside views you must make sure the property you choose in on the west side of the island, however this does cost considerably more. If you like to explore, hike, shop...Fira's cenral location will suit your needs.
