From start to finish a very pleasant stay. The hotel is in a great location a short walk from the old town part of Salvador, and features cracking views across the bay from the back of the building and the terrace (although be aware the docks do also feature quite predominantly!)
Our room was at the front but didnt suffer from any street noise, while the decor and quality of the furnishings etc was top notch. The style of the whole hotel was amazing, with unique decoration and attention to detail, and a great pool/sundeck (although small as there are only 5 rooms it was never crowded)
The staff were extremely helpful with advice and guidance, plus happy just to have a chat about anything of interest. Breakfast was varied and high quality, with pleasant service.
Overall would definitely stay at Aram Yami again

Pousada Colonial is right in the historical district, a stone's throw from Carmo Church and a 15 minute walk from Pelourinho. Breakfast (by Brazilian law) is included but the rooms have few amenities: no TV or mini-bar (there is a communal TV in the living room upstairs that I never saw anyone use during our stay. There IS free wi-fi and the rooms are air-conditioned and there is a safe for valuables. Many restaurants close by, including a jazz club across the street.
So it's not exactly a luxury hotel, but just the atmosphere pays for itself - when was the last time you slept in a 17th Century Colonial-era hotel?
This is a charming, quaint, historic hotel adjacent to the old Pelouinho district in Salvador. On the plus side - great location, super helpful staff, walking distance to excellent restaurants (Alem do Cassis), historic 1849 building, great bay views from rooms in the back, perfect Brasilian breakfast offered on the roof deck. On the less than plus side - mediocre A/C that takes 15 min to cool your room, less than comfortable beds and a need for overall general building maintenance.
The room was about $125USD per night.....an incredible deal all things considered.
I would go back - it's just a taxi ride away from everything that you'd want to see.

We were in Salvador during Carnival therefore when we were looking for an hotel to book, close to the historical centre (Pelourinho) but not extremely expensive, we considered ourselves lucky to have managed to find an available room here. The "Pousada do Baluarte" is very stylish. We had a lovely room with bathroom. It also had a small courtyard with an hammock. The owner is very kind and helpful and the staff very friendly.
Breakfast was lovely and the place was very clean.

Not all the standard rooms do have TV, also a number don't have a view, except of a wall a few feet away.
The main room or "suite" is available at a bit of extra cost and comes complete with TV, A/C, safe and splendid view of the sea, liner berth and the lower town from the good sized balcony with table, chairs and hammock, though the drop is a long way down so don't book it if you don't like heights.
Lots of steps and long corridors, also the streets outside are very rough cobbles (like all of the local district), so you need to be firm of foot.
There's a choice of eating places within 50 metres with loads more, as well as plenty of entertainment, in Pelourinho, ten minutes walk down hill and up the other side.
Breakfast isn't cheap although the quality is fine and it's plentiful.
The hotel can arrange airport transfer, the price is reasonable and the taxi a properly licensed one. Allow an hour in case of traffic, though it should only take half that.
24 hour manning on the front desk and pleasant staff round it off.

Historical structures from Portuguese settlers fill Pelourinho and Santo Antonio in west Salvador. Once the center of Salvador, and Brazil's capitol, Pelourinho attracts visitors with its former municipal buildings and religious structures. Bright colors and stucco decorate the houses and daily performances showcase the rich musical and artistic heritage of the city.
