Excellent value for money, this hotel should be your choice if you want to be in the Sardinero area next to the beach and the casino.2 minutes walk away from a fantastic beach and very close to the Magdalena island with its lovely palaceThe staff is top notch, helpful to the max . Rooms are very neat, bathrooms have all you need. I had an amazing view of the bay from mine. Truth said, corridors need un uplift.Skip breakfast at the hotel , not cheap and take it in any of cafeterias which you'll find steps away from the hotel walking towards the beach. There is an outstanding supermarket next door to the hotel in the opposite direction of the hotel where you'll find an excellent choice of products.
We'd booked a 'classic' room which overlooked the garden, but due to low-occupancy (this was October) we were given a free upgrade to a sea-view room. Although the décor was a little dated (a refurbishment must be due at least for the bathroom), the room was spacious and very comfortable, with a great view of the Magdalena peninsula and Cantabrian Sea. A varied and well-stocked breakfast buffet was available in the breakfast room 0730-1030 hrs, overlooking the gardens, and we also enjoyed late drinks on the comfortable bar terrace. The staff were very professional and welcoming as befits a Grand Hotel. The quiet, hill-top location in a prosperous suburb is not ideal for the city centre, but has the benefit of being an easy walk to Magdalena, Biquini and El Sardinero beaches and the regular and cheap bus service from Avenida Reina Victoria (5 minutes walk away) means the city centre is easily accessible in 15 minutes or so. The No.12 service also operates one-way from virtually outside the hotel but the service is half-hourly only.
Welcoming and helpful arrival; lovely room with sea view balcony; good light meal and service in the evening; secure garage giving peace of mind about our full car; ease and efficiency if check out. What more is there to say other than the staff smiled and went about their tasks professionally. Recommend highly for stopover or stay.

Excellent facilities, both in the room & elsewhere. I can thoroughly recommend the food as well, it was done with flair & was full of flavour. An ideal hotel for those either on business or exploring the city itself, as it's centrally placed but not on a busy road. I arrived by train from Madrid & it was only a few minutes' walk to the hotel. Check in was quick & efficient & the room had everything I wanted - a comfortable bed (first priority for me), plenty of space in bedroom & bathroom, a TV with wide choice of channels & minibar. Everything was clean & in good order too. As that is essentially a list of what I look for in a hotel, I will keep this review short & just say everything was excellent, hence my giving it a rating of 5.

What a beautiful hotel this is! Our experience, overlooking the harbour was nothing short of breathtaking, after a dash down to Portsmouth, a crowded crossing and a first attempt at driving on the wrong side of the road, we were suddenly blasted into our holiday.

This was the second time I stayed at the Hotel Central. Each visit was for one week. The location is ideal but there are a couple of things that make me not want to come back. First, they promise WiFi in the rooms. That is only true if you have a PC, but not a Mac. I had to put my computer in the window and use the hot spot from the Mercado de Este next door. Second, the ads say they have a restaurant in the hotel, but they only have vending machines. There is a buffet breakfast that is ok, but nothing more. Overall, the hotel is clean and the staff is polite and helpful.
