Researched a few hotels and glad we picked this one. Grounds are beautiful and rooms are very clean. Hotel is right on the water. Breakfast was very good. The hotel Continental next store looks nice as well. However, it's higher above the water so a longer walk to the water from the hotel room.

This hotel is a great splurge for anyone who loves the Italian Rivera. It is an easy walk to great restaurants, parks and is right on the waterfront. The ferry to Portofino and the Cinque Terre is only about a twenty minute walk and the train station is about a half hour walk. There is parking if you need it and the rooftop pool and hot tub have a fabulous view of the Ligurian Sea and the town. The breakfast is also wonderful! We didn't really use the beach except to check it out, but it seemed very nice. The beach is stones and rocks, but the chair area is on a huge patio. There is a beachside restaurant too. My only fault is that the hotel hasn't quite caught up to the cellphone age since you needed a new log-in every day and sometimes had to try more than once. All in all, we really enjoyed this hotel and would definitely return.
We met our family from London in Santa Margherita for 4 nights. With no children on this trip, it was important to have a good location and comfortable quarters.
The Santa Margherita Palace was perfect. They accommodate parking. There is a pleasant outdoor sitting area with couches to meet. There is another location inside the lobby to meet before you leave for the day.
The staff is very professional and helpful. There is a very ample breakfast selection and bar. The room that we had (304) was great with lots of room and a small table with chairs. There were sufficient storage for clothes. There is a mini-bar with good choices.
The main bathroom is a good size. The only drawback was that the shower required contortions for a tall, big American. If the door open out instead of in, it would have been easier.
Hotel is located just two blocks from the water and a short walk to banks, boats to Portofino and beyond to other sites. The nearby Hotel Helios has a private deck with pool and sea swimming plus chairs/chaise for $25 Euros. There is a public beach next to it.
Recommendations for restaurant: Taverna del Marinaio - near the waterfront: $$$
Angolo 48: $$ Side street

The Hotel Miramare in Santa Margherita Ligure is everything a traveler would expect from a 5 star hotel on the Italian Riviera. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and are immaculate. The staff is helpful, informed and professional. An easy walk to many restaurants, to the town center and to the ferries for transport to the Cinque Terre or Portofino, the Miramare is in an ideal location. We visited the entire Ligurian coast using the hotel as our base. Santa Margherita is in our opinion, the most beautiful and lively spot on the Riviera. Finding a hotel like the Miramare just made everything more beautiful and more enjoyable. We will return soon.
The Lido has a quaint charm and comfort about it. It was more comfy and warm than luxurious, but that seemed more appropriate to the locale. We had the most amazing view from room 401. A corner suite with four big windows to open to the gentle sea breeze. I guess for longer stays, there was even a small kitchenette. Staff was courteous. Breakfast was average. The view was the most spectacular and will forever be my favorite anywhere...it was heavenly.
