“Amazing charm, great location”
We were really impressed by the charm of the hotel including our junior suite. The location is in the heart of the city. They charge an additional $$ per day for parking onsite. Hotel staff not friendly. It appeared they were really annoyed by any guest requests. Housecleaning didn't show up one out of 5 days. Had to request towels, soap, and toilet tissue twice. Because they weren't replaced on a day that housecleaning did show up. We ate at the hotel restaurant, which was a joke. I don't think the staff had ever even read the menu. They knew nothing about the food nor wine list. Food was very average at a high price. I would stay here again, however, as I enjoyed the room and location.
“Character hotel in downtown Santa Fe”
Hotel Chimayo is a charming hotel of some character in a great location close to the Plaza (2 minute walk). Rooms are clean and spacious, though the bathroom was small. The atmosphere is unpretentious and pleasant. It is good value for Santa Fe.
“wonderful”
Not one thing I could have changed
“Great location! Would definitely stay here again.”
We loved this hotel and would stay again. Recently changed name to Hotel Chimayo, but the all travel guides still say Hotel Plaza Real. It is the perfect location for everything we wanted to do in Santa Fe - Santa Fe Plaza in the center of town, Palace of the Governors for the best locally made jewelry, great restaurants, shopping and the Old Santa Fe trail. It was clean, decor in the room seemed new, and the bed was so comfortable ! Pillow-top mattress plus a feather bed! Really enjoyed our stay.
“Plaza Perfect”
Great price, they upgraded my dog and I to a suite and it was a half block from the plaza .Underground parking on the site, a bar entertainment and a small restaurant out front. A couple of public areas needed a little cleaning attention but in all a great stay.
“Great location, but no winner”
This older hotel, now called the Chimayo is located at the Plaza in Santa Fe, NM. The location is great for walking to shops and restaurants and they have a shuttle to other attractioins. Parking is $14/day. Our room was a spacious bedroom and living room, comfortable with hard floors, a small bath, rustic, but certainly not upscale. There was no chair in the bedroom and the bed was high, making it difficult to tie shoes. The two story hotel has an open courtyard that makes getting to your room without getting wet during the frequent rainstorms a trial. Also our room was a half story up stairs not serviced by the elevator. We had heavy luggage and used the bellman to haul our luggage up the stairs. The recently opened restaurant Tia's left much to be desired in food and service and we would not recommend it. There is a great breakfast/lunch place 2 doors away that is very inexpensive. We couldn't get 6 nights in the same hotel and spent 4 nights at the Hotel Santa Fe, a much nicer hotel at far less money than the Plaza Real or renamed Chimayo Hotel. We would return to Hotel Santa Fe in a minute, but the more expensive less nice Chimayo has only its location going for it. It's not bad, but there are far better alternatives.
“Excellent choice”
When booking, I was concerned about the reported construction work being undertaken. In fact there was no impact at all. I knew the refurbished bar and new restaurant would not be open for our trip (they opened the day after we left); after a tour we saw that they will be a lovely addition. The location can't be beaten: three minutes from the Plaza and yet very quiet (perhaps more so than some of the more expensive hotels on the other side of the Plaza). Our suite-king deluxe - was very spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was small, but nicely furbished; the 'sofa bed' might be quite hard for some people. It was great to return to after a long day out and sit out on either of the balconies. There were steps up to our suite, so people worried by that should request the ground floor. Overall staff were very helpful and friendly, although there were some insider tips that they didn't know: ie if you can't book The Shed restaurant (highly recommeneded), there is a good system for walk-ins. They said they would make a note on this. I suspect that is the same with some other popular places. Otherwise, they were very very good at directing us to places and services, booking things, etc. I almost booked another hotel - much more expensive - with spa facilities, large public areas, etc Very very glad we made the choice we did. Perfect for our needs. Very pleasant ambience. Now called Hotel Chimayo
“Perfect for our trip!”
My husband and I were incredibly lucky to find such a great deal at the Hotel Plaza Real. We had a "junior suite" with a King bed, sitting area with fireplace and a small balcony. The room was spacious but cozy. The bathroom tile was older but in great condition. It was really close to the Plaza (less than 2 blocks away). They were doing renovations during our stay, but we didn't have any issues with the construction. The people at the front desk were very pleasant and recommended a delicious (but reasonable) place for dinner. We would definitely return to stay here in the future!
“A Delightful Stay”
Our stay at Hotel Plaza Real was delightful. My wife and I enjoyed the roomy accommodation and the friendly reception.
“Perfect Location”
Located round the corner from the old Plaza where all the streets running from this contain the museums, shops, restaurants and Cathedrals of the original Santa Fe city.
