“Service was very, very nice. Interesting place.”
Nice place--obviously not designed by modern standards. However, a good alternative to more expensive historical properties.
“Nice place if you like retro”
This hotel is in one of the old route 66 hotels. It is in great shape and the staff are wonderful.
“Always satisfied, Great place to stay.”
My wife and I have stayed @ the El Rey Inn four times and we have never had a bad experience. The rooms are always clean, breakfast is outstanding. It's an older hotel and a must if you travel to Santa Fe by car.
“Pretty good stay”
Interesting place, good rates, convenient location, and good staff service.
“Hooray for The El Rey”
The El Rey Hotel is just what it advertises, a charming little court motel, established in the 30's and landmark for the Route 66 era. The motel is convieniently located on busy Cerrillos Rd., but we didn't experience any problems with noise or traffic. Rooms are small, but who wants to hang out in your room during vacation? Could use a little TLC here & there but a great value for the money. Would be my first choice if returning to Santa Fe.
“Smoke and mirrors.”
The history of the motor court and main building is intriguing. My room was very dark and cheaply decorated... typical motel. The location is so-so...within a couple miles of the Plaza, but on a shoddy looking and high traffic street. The price was a little high considering all the factors. If I had it to do all over, I would splurge for a nice room at a resort (Ten Thousand Waves is twice the price and 5x the experience).
“Not at all Satisfied”
Quaint hotel. Beds were the hardest I had ever experienced - so after a 12-hour drive, couldn't sleep. No pillow slips - which was horrible. Bathrooms were much too small. Ladies - you'll not have any space to put your toiletries/curling irons...etc. Breakfast is a very skimpy contintental. This was the most unsatisfying hotel I have ever stayed at.
“Repeat customers for lots of reasons”
Beautifully maintained grounds and lovely lobby with newspapers and computer. The free breakfast in the sunny cheerful breakfast room with nice staff is added bonus.. Rates are the best in Santa Fe. No wonder people keep returning to the El Rey year after year.
“Have enjoyed several stays”
The El Rey is an historic highway motel built in Santa Fe style, mostly one story with a variety of rooms. It is not the Hyatt but has a lot of SW character and is clean and well maintained. It has extensive grounds that are beautifully landscaped. The outdoor pool is really nice. Breakfast is very good and the staff is always very nice and accomodating. It is about a 5 minute drive to the plaza.
“Good value and beautiful grounds”
This is an old motel from the 50's that has been lovingly cared-for and upgraded. It is about a 5 minute drive from the plaza downtown, and is far less expensive than accommodations closer in. The immediate neighborhood looks fairly run-down, but there are some good restaurants and shops within an easy drive. The garden-like setting is beautifully maintained, and everyone we met was very pleasant. There were, however, several drawbacks: the room itself was very dark and relatively small, and the breakfast offerings were fairly limited. We also had trouble in adjusting the room's temperature - therewas a wall thermostat as well as knobs on the wall unit, and we seemed unable to get the right combination to get the room to cool off enough at night.
