My wife and I stayed 2 nights. Our arrival was a concern, because the desk clerks were not particularly pleasant or helpful. However, we were lucky to have a large room located on the first floor adjacent to an inside courtyard, which was quiet and had a/c controls. We purchased the welcome-arrival dinner, and it was served on the rooftop restaurant which had a nice view of the Grand Canal; the menu and food were good and our waiter was extraordinarily nice and efficient. The breakfast buffet that was included with the room price was a complete breakfast; it wasn't terrific, but it was fine. The cleaning service personnel were nice and efficient. Interestingly, the decor was over-the-top similar to a cat house in a wild west movie, and quite dated. P.S. We arrived by water taxi from the airport, and the water taxi dropped us off in the front of the hotel at its own dock.
Easy to get to from Pia. Roma. I liked knowing I had quick and easy access to the airport bus in the morning. Room was smallish, but the worst features was the bed. Very uncomfortable mattress and pillows. I was only here for one night....so doable. My husband liked the hotel and said he could have stayed a couple of days. Front desk staff was very helpful. Continental breakfast in the morning....can get fresh cappuccino.
Good value for money.
First off this hotel was in a convenient location, near to cruise ship port, train station, and bus station for easy transport to airport. It was also on a quiet street right across from a waterway, which we could view from our room. The courtyard area where you dined for breakfast was also beautiful and tranquil. In addition we found the hotel staff to be helpful and pleasant. Our bed was extremely firm but it didn't inhibit us from getting a very good night sleep. Our only complaint was that there wasn't a US hook up like you might find in other high end European hotels, but if you travel with adapters, this shouldn't be a problem.
On entering the main hotel, you see a fantastic charming old style Venetian building. You are then told your room is in the annex.
OK not an issue until you realise it is 100M away and the porter takes your cases. No WiFi here.
I stayed in an upstairs room which had a vault wood beam ceiling but no view and a little noisy from the main road into Venice. My colleague stayed in the downstairs room which had steel beams in the ceiling and didn't look as attractive.
Hopefully most of these little issues will be resolved with the building of the new extension?
Easy walk over bridge from train station to hotel. You have to look for the alley by the carlton hotel to get to the capri not unhandy just have to be aware to go down the alley. Close to vaporette station for water taxi. Breakfast is average.
At the start of the Grand Canal, Santa Croce is set immediately across from the bus station and railway station. It is a peaceful quarter adjacent to, but largely unaffected by the visitor hubbub. The picturesque Ponte degli Scalzi is a great place for watching the busy canal traffic and there are many fines churches to explore off the beaten tourist track. The Rialto Bridge is only a 10-minute walk or boat ride away.
