“Beautiful Gardens”

“The Bergerac”

Roberto at the front desk was absolutely amazing. Very helpful, friendly and genuine. Nice hotel, yummy breakfast, clean rooms and in a quiet area of San Jose. Within walking distance to the National Theater and Museums. Appx 30 minutes from the airport. Would recommend.

“Exceptional Hotel”

“Outdated”

Hotel looked much more impressive on web site than in real life. Rooms were badly in need of updating. There were no dressers in any of the rooms and very little place for clothes. Tiny closets. Staff was generally very helpful and pleasant. They had very recently eliminated full breakfast - except with extra charge, and when ordering only the continental breakfast, service was somewhat unpleasant. In a country known for its coffee, the coffee served was bitter and not very drinkable.

Area recommendations

Don't know. City center was old, dirty and run down. We heard that Escazu was the new high end place to stay, but did not get there.

“Hotel Bergerac”

A lovely, welcoming hotel near down town San Jose. Staff is very helpful and attentive. Rooms are spacious, clean attractive. Flowering gardens add to the charm.

“Le Bergerac was Great!”

Le Bergerac is located about 25 minutes from the airport and about 3 minutes drive from central San Jose. They have security 24/7. They have locked parking so your car is safe from the most common crime in Costa Rica - the smash and grab. Our room had a private patio which was very peaceful. Hotel staff was extremely helpful. They provided outstanding directions to restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast in the morning was included and very good, although simple. Wood floors in our room were immaculate. Shower was just fine. TV had as many channels as you can get in the U.S. Overall it was an excellent experience.

Area recommendations

San Jose is so diverse. Where Le Bergerac is, the neighborhood is very quiet and set apart. But one block to the north and there is a major road. 7 block to the east and the major mall is located. Don't stay at the Holiday Inn in San Jose unless you are looking for hookers - it is right in the middle of the red light district. The middle of San Jose, where the Gold Museum is is extremely congested but centrally located to shopping. Ultimately, 1 day in San Jose is more than enough time to see the city. Get out to the coast ASAP!

Getting around

Get a GPS because in most places, streets do not have signs. There are very few signs that say "this way to the airport". Just spend the extra cash and use the GPS. No place has an address.

“Lovely San Jose Boutique Hotel”

Hotel Le Bergerac is a lovely boutique hotel in the Los Yoses neighborhood of San José, Costa Rica. The rooms are very pleasant and quiet and many of them have pocket gardens where guests can sit and enjoy the morning with full breakfast and coffee. The location is ideal for our purposes and recommend it to all our friends who visit Costa Rica.
