Beautiful, stylish; perfect start to our honeymoon

Posted 19-May-2015
Pros: Helpful yet non-fussy nature of staff. Beautiful surroundings
Cons: Nothing - its basically perfect
Location: Very convenient for airport (30 minutes by bus/taxi) and downtown San Jose (10 minutes walk, bus stop 1 minute away)
Arrived at hotel 9pm after long pair of flights from UK. We were greeted with chilled fruit juice at reception and a spread of complimentary tropical fruit awaited us in our room, with private courtyard and water fountain! We then headed up to the hot tubs in the roof garden... A classy relaxing start to our honeymoon.

Beautiful hotel very close to the airport

Not much to do in the city of San Jose but this hotel is wailing distance from downtown. Took the poas volcano/doka estates/la Paz waterfall tour through the hotel and it was a great experience. The restaurant in the hotel is fantastic and all staff are pleasant and accommodating

Relaxing Hotel

Posted 22-Apr-2015
We have stayed at Grano de Oro twice now. Both time were one night with flights the next day. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The atmosphere is very relaxing with jacuzzi on the roof and court yards throughout the hotel with fountains everywhere. The first time we stay it was in room 14 a few years ago, it felt very private and quiet. The second time we stayed it was in room 29 which in around a courtyard and steps up to the deck/jacuzzi area. It was louder in the morning then we anticipated with everyone getting up early for flights. The sound resinates through the courtyard. Next time we stay we will request a room away from the courtyards. The restaurant which we have dined at multiple times now for dinner and breakfast is just WONDERFUL from the atmosphere to the excellent service and cuisine! We are never disappointed. We highly recommend this hotel.

Luxury time at the Hotel Grano De Oro, Costa Rica.

Posted 21-Apr-2015
I stayed at the Grano del Oro recently for 2 nights. On arrival, my husband and I were warmly greeted at reception and offered a freshly made fruit drink while signing in. The hotel is elegant and spacious and staff retain a friendly and efficient ambience towards their guests. There is an 'old world charm' about the hotel which is enhanced by the lovely old wooden staircase adorned with intriguing photographs of Costa Rica in past times. Along with this, the captivating history of the hotel itself is fascinating. Our room was immaculately clean and beautifully stylish, each day, two delicious chocolates were left for us. The dining room is a sight to behold - you can sit inside but we favoured sitting outside in a handsome courtyard, complete with a fountain, tropical plants and an occasional visiting bird. Candle-lit for evening meals, the atmosphere cannot fail to provide a romantic setting! The food was exceptional and presented with some aplomb.

Worth staying here...

Posted 08-Apr-2015
Pros: Everything!
Cons: N/a
Location: Location looked safe. Wouldn't venture off to the "centro" which is several blocks away.
I went with this hotel for the arrival of our honeymoon in Costa Rica because of the reviews on Trip Advisor. Upon arriving to the hotel we were greeted with the most delicious juice drink. Check-in was smooth. We were told that we were upgraded to a "superior" room. I'm not sure if this is because I had mentioned during my reservations that we were going to be on our honey moon. If you can, I would book a superior room. Our room was nestled in a garden terrace corner of the hotel. It was beautiful. The windows were open (which we left open while sleeping). The room was great. There are pocket doors for the restroom. FYI, we didn't notice until the next day that we could actually close the door to the restroom. Several times we had to ask the front staff for small needs (restaurant reccomendations, coffee, etc.) and they were always great! Room service at night was quick. We had the munchies late at night. They have a jacuzzi. Area is great upstairs. We didn't utilize it, but did use it to sit and relax. We left our charger and I emailed the hotel. They kept it safe for us until we returned on our way back home to the airport. We would definitely stay again!

We spent a single night and only a few hours at this wonderful hotel before moving onwards but our brief stay was a memorable one nonetheless. Great welcome, room and staff! Highly recommended

Beautiful hotel, great restaurant

Posted 01-Apr-2015
Cons: I think that a king bed could have been in the room that we had without compromising the comfort of the space.
Location: It is close to the main street of San Jose and the walking street and museums, restaurants, etc.
Grano de Oro was a unique, beautiful place. We enjoyed our stay there. The room was lovely, the restaurant was wonderful, the jacuzzi terrace was relaxing and the staff was friendly and helpful.
