Just perfect!

Posted 22-Jul-2014
Pros: Everything.
Cons: It was perfect for us.
Location: The zone where it is located is not the best but we could go anywhere by car (we rented a car), we went to a very nice mall and downtown.
The hotel is gorgeous, the staff was so nice to us and the rooms are incredibly beautiful. It was a dream come true.

Vintage Hotel

Posted 11-Jul-2014
This was a lovely and elegant hotel. It was very old-fashioned and beautifully decorated. We stayed there one night before heading out of the airport the next morning. The spa was fun to use, and the restaurant food was delicious.

Gem of a hotel

Posted 09-Jul-2014
Our family stayed at hotel grono de oro for one night in July 2014. We chose the hotel for its close proximity to the airport (about 20 minutes) and relative safety of the area. The hotel itself is a renovated mansion and is quirky. We stayed in the family suite which was delightful. Our 3 kids slept in the main bedroom and my husband and I had our own bedroom. The suit overlooked the hot tubs, but still felt private due to the beautiful plantings. We had birthday celebration dinner in the hotel restaurant. The food was great and the decor was beautiful. Prices are a bit high for dining with the kids, but they did have a kids menu. The restaurant is a bit high end and you may feel under dressed if you dine in shorts and a tshirt. However patrons were in everything from t-shirts (tourists) to suits (business dinner). The staff was attentive and professional and I felt the pricing was fair. Would stay here again for sure!

sophisticated hotel in San Jose

Posted 04-Jul-2014
Pros: The peacefulness. the quiet in the room. the location to downtown
Cons: friendliness from the restaurant staff
Location: can walk to museums and the town
We completed our 10 day stay in Costa Rica at this hotel. We were there on the day Costa Rica played in the final 16 in the World Cup so we lucked out. The staff at the hotel greeted us with the fact that tv screens were being put up in the park to watch the game so we could not resist being part of this excitement. The staff from the bellman to the desk staff were all fabulous. We ate in the restaurant where we had a delicious meal but our waiter was the only unfriendly person we experienced at the hotel. The room is beautiful, comfortable, spacious and in pristine condition. There is a jacuzzi on the rooftop lounge, a small gift shop with local goods, and a small garden. Breakfast was another delicious meal. The hotel van took us to the airport but first schlepped us around town to find team World Cup tee shirts for our grandchildren. The driver was incredible in his help on our mission.

Fabulous Stay!

Posted 22-Jun-2014
Pros: The entire hotel staff.
Cons: nothing
Location: The location is right downtown. It is within walking distance to the local market, craft markets, parks, and national museums.
We stayed in the Grano de Oro for a total of 11 nights. Everything about this hotel is nothing but perfect. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, the restaurant food is delicious. All of the hotel staff from the bell staff, front desk, to the maid service was perfect. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. The only thing to be careful about is the distance to the locations that you want to visit. The hotel is quite a distance away from some very important places that you probably would like to see.

Beautiful, cozy hotel tucked into busy San Jose

Posted 17-Jun-2014
Pros: Decor and friendly staff
Location: About a mile to the main shopping area - close to university area of San Jose
Fabulous service and nicely-appointed boutique hotel. Met at the curb by a smiling bellman who quickly whisked me and my bags up the steps to reception. Front desk staff handed me a glass of juice and quickly checked me in and described services available at the hotel. Rooms and the restaurant were elegantly decorated - but not stiffly formal. Food was excellent in the restaurant - staff very attentive.

Excellent 2 night stay in San Jose

Posted 16-Jun-2014
Met with an arrival drink, a nice touch. Staff very friendly/attentive, especially in the restaurant. Hotel itself is two old colonial homes joined together hence very decorative with many internal open courtyards. Ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant. Food was very good and reasonably priced compared to a similar quality hotel in another capital city. Ideal for staying a few nights in San Jose at the beginning or end of your trip. I recommend this hotel.
