This hotel was great mostly for its people. The desk staff, bartenders, wait staff, cleaning staff - all nice and very helpful. I travelled with my sister and we stayed in Cala - the rooms have names instead of numbers. We had 2 comfortable beds and a nice bathroom with a shower/tub combination. We were there from 7/2 - 7/8 and slept with the window open every night and were very comfortable.
In addition, the food was excellent! Breakfast was the same everyday and very good, but the dinners the chef prepared were some of the best around! Try the Spaghetti - who would have thought an Italian dish in CR would be so remarkable?!
The staff was helpful in confirming tour pick up times for us, responding to a call when we broke a class in the bathroom - eek, and even arranged to order and pick up a cake my sister requested for my birthday. I don't recall the name of the bakery, but the cake was to die for! I'm sure if you ask, they can hook you up.
Overall, a great place to stay!
One thing of note, there is a train that passes (down the middle of the street!) about 60 feet from the hotel. it didn't bother us at all, in fact we liked hearing it. But if you're sensitive to such sounds, be aware!

We stayed at this wonderful little place in downtown San Jose. We origionally booked an economy room and then decided to upgrade because it has a newer area also. Well we had a beautiful room on the second floor corner. But I must say after looking into the open rooms all thru the hotel, they are all beautifully decorated. We had a nice breakfast by the pool. The pool was thouroghly cleaned the day we were there and the hotel is clean.
There are small restaurants all around and only two blocks from a nice park center. Wear comfy shoes because the sidewalks need some care. Watch out for traffic. It is safe during the day but I would stay in at night. Just because everything is closed around the hotel.
We loved it here and will be happy to stay there again.
Inca Real was the least expensive hotel I could find in San Jose. Since we were only staying one night on the way into Costa Rica and one night on the way out, we decided that we didn't need anything special, so cheap would do.
When we arrived, we were very pleasantly surprised-- the hotel was very clean, had 2 computers for guest use, gave us wakeup calls and called our taxis for us for the airport. The staff spoke very decent english, and were helpful in giving us ideas for dinner and entertainment.
Our room had two beds instead of the expected one. My only complaint was the firmness of the mattress, but I know some folks are fond of firm beds. The bathrooms were nice-- very good water pressure and pleasently hot water. After a long day of travel it was a nice place to rest.
The hotel was perfectly located and the staff was exceptionally nice, polite, courteous, and helpful. The room was large/spacious and clean. The staff, also, was extremely helpful in directing us to where we wanted to go, informing us as to what place we should see, how to get there, and other places we may find of interest. Our room was always kept clean. In returning to San Jose, we would not hesitate to stay here again and would gladly recommend this place to our friends.
I had a 10 day vacation, and stayed at 4 different hotels around Costa Rica. The Radisson was by far the nicest hotel of them all, and was the 2nd least expensive. The room was amazingly big, comfortable, and great location. This is the hotel I will stay at when I return.
The staff at the hostel really helped me out. My room was clean and comfortable. There is a childrens park right across the street. Other than the park, I didn't enjoy the location much. We didn't venture out far and when we did, it was sketchy. There is a bank and store nearby but I didn't feel good looking for restaraunts. Great for an overnight stay but i wouldn't stay longer
