"Perfect spot to rest after arriving in Costa Rica"
The hotel is superb. We have stayed here before, but the entire property has been refurbished, and the grounds are exceptional. The business area is free, with great, free, coffee for your enjoyment. They were just decorating for the holidays, and the effect was simply beautiful. Although we were here for only one night, it was great to have free, regularly operating shuttle service from the airport. I was impressed, and will certainly return.
This hotel although it wasn't super modern, it was well maintained and very clean. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and the complementary breakfast buffet was good. We (one additional traveler) were picked up from the airport by a hotel shuttle service at 1:30AM on a Friday, and were told at first we would be charged about $25, but ended up being free transportation. I would check on that, but I believe transportation from the airport to hotel is free as long as you coordinate in advance with the hotel. We also were not too far from downtown San Jose (National theatre), our cab ride was about $12 one way. I do recommend Barcelo San Jose Palacio and would definitely go back.
My husband and I stayed at the Palma Real for 9 days in August. He was competing in the North, Central, and Caribbean World Masters Championship at the National Stadium in San Jose. The location of the hotel was perfect - a 10 minute walk and we were at the stadium! As for the hotel itself - it was lovely - had everything we needed! And the staff - well, they were fantastic! From Javier, the concierge, to Juan & Sebastion on reception - and everyone else - we could not have asked for nicer, more helpful, caring people! Our room was perfect - we were facing the inner courtyard so it was quiet and we had a lovely view! The hotel has a small lobby bar, a restaurant (breakfast was very good), a pretty well equipped gym, free internet access (and access to two computers) and a small casino. We do not tend to gamble BUT the drinks and food in the casino were excellent - especially the prices! Much much cheaper than the restaurant! Would we stay there again - absolutely! PS do take in a couple of excursions - ask Javier - he will set you up!
One of the first Holiday Inns that have in room dining. They have a restaurant that serves until 11:pm. Also it is in a small shopping mall but I did not check the mall out. Other than that, not much else but a B.F Chang in walking distance.
