“Will definitely recommend this place”

Prior to leaving on our recent trip to Costa Rica, we spent time looking for hotels in the areas we were panning on visiting and read the reviews on Casa Conde. Everyone seemed to agree that the hotel deserved high marks to which we agree after staying there. The negative comments had to do with the neighborhood it finds itself. My response to this is that San Jose neighborhoods could potentially all look bad to North American travelers. We lived very near to this hotel for a year while studying Spanish which helped us not to be surprised by the typical housing in many Costa Rican neighborhoods. Having said this, one must be wise when traveling to any major city regarding when and where not to go. I definitely recommend this hotel and we will stay there again on any future trips to San Jose, Cost Rica.

“Bad hotel for business”

This hotel is very convenient and very affordable. the apartments are fully equipped with a full kitchen, washer and dryer. So if you use that hotel for vacations it is a very good choice as it is very cheap. HOWEVER, if you go to Costa Rica for business I don't recommend that hotel at all! The wireless internet is garbage, I could not use it for 3 days, I had to switch twice of apartment to find an Ethernet connection that worked. The first day I lost more than 1 hours trying to send emails! as far as comfort is concerned there is no hot water in the bathroom, the water is just warm and that's it.

“Nice Hotel - NOT near SJO”

We had an early morning flight out of San Jose and were looking for an inexpensive hotel near the airport. We booked this hotel based on the previous reviews, and because it came up on a search as 2km from SJO. Casa Conde is nowhere near SJO. It is also on the outskirts of San Jose. It cost us around $30 to get to the airport. The customer service at the front desk was very friendly. The room was fine. I booked a standard room which turned out to have a full kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms! All we really wanted was a queen sized bed and asked if we could switch rooms, but that would be considered an upgrade. It looked like the hotel had a very nice pool, although we didn't take advantage of any of the amenities as we arrived late and checked out early. I think this hotel would be a good choice for a family, especially if you have a car rental.

Area recommendations

We didn't spend any time in San Jose. My recommendation would be to get out of the city ASAP and see other parts of this beautiful country!

“Strange place”

The first problem I had was that the air condition did not work. The repair men were very quick to correct the problem, but I wonder why I had to be dealing with an obvious matter such as that. Next, the shower did not have hot water. It had a kind of slightly warmed water. But not hot. Not even near hot. In fact is was just bearable. just above cold. Then the drain in the shower was not good. It was not emptying the shower area fast enough. The result of this is that I found myself taking a shower in a pool of water, at my feet. Added to his this shower head clearly needed replacement: it was sending water in every direction instead of where I needed water. Also, I was not impressed with the front desk staff. I was greeted well by Rodrigo, the supervisor. But later that day, and even when I was leaving, I found the other front desk persons to be less than responsive. I think the place has potential. I just don't think they are ready and open to the concept of good service. I would not go back there.

“Great Views but a little dated”

We had a very nice stay at the Hotel. The property itself is beautiful and the service is excellent. Views of the Pacific from the mountaintop cant be beat. The rooms however are a bit dated......there was a musty smell in my room that I did not care for. In addition, the mattress was the hardest I have EVER slept on....very uncomfortable. I notice that some other reviews said the same thing.

“Lovely Hotel”

The staff was gracious and efficient, the rooms were pleasant and well appointed, and the grounds were lovely. The neighborhood is rough, but the hotel grounds felt safe. The breakfasts were fantastic--fruit and gallo pinto were wonderful. Overall, we felt pampered and appreciated, although the numerous events--receptions, parties, showers--the hotel caters made it difficult to enjoy the pool and restaurant. We also enjoyed the very large hot tub, but for two days of our stay it was out of service. I'm not sure I would go back (San Jose traffic and pollution make it a stressful city to use as a base), but we nevertheless were pleased with the hotel.

When to go

Early April is the perfect time to be in Costa Rica. The rainy season hasn't started, and there were no insects.

Outdoors or beach

Manuel Antonio National Park, on the Pacific coast, is a beautiful beach.

“It was okay”

Most of the staff at the hotel was very friendly, and the rooms were very quaint. Our room actually looked like a small apartment because it had two rooms a small living and dining room and a kitchen as well. The location however wasn't the greatest. From the hotel to downtown San Jose was about a 20 min ride. It wasn't the best hotel I have ever been to but it most definitely wasn't the worse either.

“A good place to stay”

The hotel was a good place to stay and fairly close to popular attractions in San Jose. The security was good but this was necessary since there seemed to be a lot of evidence of crime within a couple blocks. Make sure you don't walk outside the hotel area after dark. Food was excellent and service was good as well.
