“Good american style hotel”

The best Western is conveniently located just a 5 minute cab ride from downtown/Sabana Park and on a direct line from the international airport. I like to stay there when flying out as they have a free airport shuttle every 20 minutes. The facility and rooms are clean and comfortable but not 5 star luxurious. They have a nice outddor pool and a reasonably modern gym as well as good laundry facilities. The attached 24 hour Denny's restauran completes the American-style ambience. Its not where i would stay to sample Costa Rican culture but it can be a good choice if you are looking to see Costa Rica without losing US style comforts.

“City of San Jose”

The hotel was nice and clean. My only gripe is that I arrived right after a tour bus and it took about an hour and a half to get checked in. During my stay the staff was courteous and helpful.

“Great interim hotel before catching a flight”

I reserved a room with 2 Queen Beds but we received two full-sized beds, which was disappointing. But the hotel itself was fine. I like the fact that it has a free airport shuttle to SJO runs every 20 minutes! The Spa was a reasonable price and the staff was helpful in fitting us in late in the day. Laundry take quarters $3.00 for soap, and wash and dry load.

“Our second trip and looking forward to another!”

I can not say enough about the friendly helpful staff. We were there 4 months ago, and were immediately recognized and made to feel welcome and comfortable. There are many hotels in the city, but this is very convenient to transportation and many attractions. There is a room where there are computers available 24 hr, and always wonderful Costa Rician coffee!!!!! We enjoyed the casino as well! We were there for dental and medical tourism and was well satisfied with the quality of that as well!

“Best Irazy”

It's ok, but they have to let occupancy the room before the check in because we don't control the flights and we would have to wait 5 hours in the lobby because they said the check in was at 2:00p.m. I think it isn't correct with the costumer because always we leave before the check out.

“Worked for what I wanted”

The Casino is not very friendly. They did not speak any English in the Casino and my wife and I had to lug our luggage around while we waited for our room to be ready and it was late so we spent about 2 hours in the Casino. They never offered to store our luggage for us so we could gamble. The drinks are expensive while you gamble so we ended up leaving and waiting in the lobby. The hotel is clean and open air which was refreshing. The room was clean but dated. The bath was updated however. The bed was not close to what other hotel have offered latetly and needs updated but it was clean. The size was fine. The elevators did not work on the last day. Overall this hotel worked for us and what our purpose was.

Area recommendations

Downtown is a one time experience. The city is not much but there is an area downtown worth visiting. One day in San Jose is all that is needed and then head to the cost. I recommend not staying in the city but staying on the coast and travel to the city once for a day trip.

Getting around

We rented a car and used a GPS and that was no problem. Remembering that the traffic signals and lines in the road are only suggestions to these people. They drive everywhere and they drive slow.

“Welcoming and well-rounded accommodations!”

Lovely staff. Kind assistance. Beatiful gardens. Nice pool. Relaxing balconies. Very eco-friendly... And a super-convenient airport shuttle to round out the great benefits of staying at Best Western Irazu. We hope to stay here again!
