“Excellent Gringo Hotel”

Overall, an excellent travel choice, but mostly gringo guests. Service/hosts were wonderful ...very friendly and very helpful, rooms were spacious, internet access down hall was free and easily available; also free international calls. Food (hamburgers to local cuisine) was very good, medium price (10-15 dollar meals). Can use colones or dollars. Free breakfast. Reimbursement for taxi from airport with una factura (receipt). They pay taxi for return travel to airport, with two night stay. The Inn is very clean and decorated with interesting paintings/photos/sculpture. Situated in rich suburb just off highway. Hotel hosts helped with travel, taxis, money exchange back and forth. Really a great deal for the money. Nice restaurant/bar with CNN and Fox, US music. Pool and hot tub. Bilingual staff. Taxi to bus station, San Jose center was a bit expensive (30 dollars) but otherwise a very good price. Highly recommend side travel from hotel to volcanoes and waterfalls--gorgeous environment.

Area recommendations
airport or those who don't mind being a bit outside the city center---but easily accessible with taxi for around 30 dollars.

“Good hotel before early morning flight”

The hotel was a perfect place to stay before an early morning flight from San Jose as it is less that 15 minutes to the airport. Free national and international calls as well as internet also make this a useful pleace to stay. I probably wouldn't stay here if I wanted a base to explore San Jose but it is a good staging post before heading to a different location or home. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very close to local shopping mall.

Must see
Everyone talks about the adult turtles laying eggs in Tortuguero between August and October but the baby turtles hatching between September and November/December is also an amazing and humbling site. Well worth getting up at 4.30 am! It was the high point of a altogether amazing trip.
Events and shows
The National Ballet in San Jose is a nice change of pace from hiking and animal watching although not up to european quality.

“Great choice near airport and city”

This hotel is an appealing alternative to the name-brand chain hotels in San Jose. We stayed just one night before a flight home, and appreciated the quality and comfort of the hotel. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the large jacuzzi tub and the plush beds. The on-site restaurant and bar serves decent food and drinks at fair prices. The staff were friendly, efficient, and helpful. On a previous trip we stayed at a more-expensive chain hotel nearby, and by comparison I would definitely choose the Adventure Inn again.

“Treated like family”

This small hotel is close to the airport and well priced compared to the Hilton nearby. The room was large and comfortable. The included breakfast was an off the menu meal with an additional fruit buffet.. The staff was extremely friendly. It was ideal for the day of arrival or before departure. I would stay there again.

“Not impressed”

The adventure was sleeping on a bed that was harder than the floor! I would not recommend this hotel! It smelled bad. . .we stayed at some much nicer places for far less than we spent on this place. Sleeping in the car would have been better!

“Great hotel and staff for price paid”

Adventure Inn was great for the price we paid. The staff made up for the difference of not having a 5 star hotel. Everyone was very helpful, kind and happy to be there. The morning buffet was OK. Towards the end of our trip we found out you can actually order sandwiches as part of the complimentary breakfast! The neighborhood seemed safe -- I saw a few people jogging in the morning; but not to worry because the hotel had 24 hour security on site. It's in a great central location if you want to venture out to go sight-seeing (popular locations are not less than 1 hour drive away); but, the hotel has "partner" hotels where you can get a discount if you're not up to driving back at night from many of the popular tourist destinations. Another plus - the hotel was about 15 minutes away from the airport! Would surely stay there again on another trip to Costa Rica!

The extra expense of a GPS is worth it!!

For both, Irazu Volcano and Poas Volcano...wear warm clothes!!!

“Can't wait to go back”

This is a wonderful Mom & Pop type hotel. Met the owner and had a nice chat. Our room was super and of good size and our breakfast was fantastic. All of the hotel staff were very friendly and courteous.

“Good Option When Arriving or Departing San Jose”

This hotel is clean and comfortable. They are about 15 minuites from the San Jose Airport and if you follow their instructions, they will reimburse you for the cab ride to the hotel and will arrange for a free cab ride back to the airport when you depart. They even helped us with a get a rental car and the car was brought to us at the hotel and was also picked by the car rental agency at the hotel when we were finished with it. All in all, a pleasant experience.

“A small gem”

This hotel, while small, was fantastic. The cleanest place I've seen in Costa Rica, with the friendliest staff. The pool area was lovely, the room was huge and comfortable. For once there were plenty of pillows and, wonder of all wonders, and actual bathtub instead of just a shower. Heaven, after a long, long stay in Costa Rica without a soak! The food at the hotel bar/restaurant was good but a little over-priced...and the bar tender had no idea what a pina colada should taste like, but he made me 4 in an attempt to get it right, so I can't complain. The staff was fantastic, super friendly and chatty, and the free shuttle to the airport was a fabulous bonus.

“Great value for the Money”

We stayed at the Adventure Inn on the way back through Costa Rica from Panama. On the way out, we had stayed at Hotel Robeldal, another nice quiet hotel, but not in a convenient location. Adventure Inn is a great value for the money The surrounding neighborhood is nice. I went jogging twice without fear and saw homes without razor wire as they had guard stations. You get a full breakfast as part of the price. Hotel is very nice. Only complaint was that we had a strong sewer odor in our bathroom. Air conditioner, when used, was quite loud, but not atypical for a motel room. You can walk to a couple of restaurants in a 10 minute walk and get to a large mall with a 15-20 minute walk.
