“Not impressed”

First view of this hotel reminds one of a prison. Old, paint peeling off the exterior and shutters down over the windows. We booked a romantic room with balcony which was not given tous on check in. We had to change rooms. The rooms were old and tired but clean enough. Air-conditioning was not effective. Wireless Internet is only available in the lobby and didn't work for 90% of our stay. Finally, the corridor lights were off each evening on our return to the hotel and the fire exit lights didn't even work! I can't recommend this hotel.

“Dreadful Hotel”

We stayed for one night and could not wait to check out in the morning: - Unfriendly staff (could not be bothered to give directions, not a smile in sight) - We got bitten lots of times in the night by bed bugs (not mosquitoes) - Room was filthy (cigarette butts floating in the toilet, dirty shower) - Awfully dated hotel style, not fit for the four stars - Poor location Stay well away

“Great local train line linking you to main stations”

The hotel is based 5-10 minutes walk from the local train station and is then just a 5 minute journey to Pisa Centrale where you will be able to travel to most places. The hotel was really clean and very quiet even though it was full. If you are looking for a reasonable priced hotel, in a good location that is clean and the staff a friendly then this is the one to choose. The local village has a few restaurants that offer good quality food.

Traveller's tip

We arrived early - the hotel staff were great at looking after our luggage so that we could go and 'sight see' the local attractions. Go straight to the local train station (quicker and cheaper than driving) but avoid 10:30 - 12:00 when there is limited local trains - and head to Pisa a quick 'tour'. Or stop in the local village for great coffee and cakes!

“A very basic hotel”

For the price - and for a short stay - the hotel was fine, but it was impossible to get something to eat, or even a drink, between designated opening hours. The rooms are gloomy, but adequate for a short-term stay. Transportation to/from the hotel is a problem, except by car.

Traveller's tip

Take the bus to Lucca for shopping, entertainment, etc. It's a lovely town with far more to offer than San Giuliano Terme. Check your restaurant bills in San Giuliano Terme carefully.

“Not Impressed”

My family and I recently visited Pisa and stayed 1 night at this hotel and it was not comforting at all. The hotel is not close to the Leaning tower (6 miles or more) and it's stuck in the 80's style. I would not recommend this hotel as we had to exchange rooms at 1am due to a cleaniness issue. This hotel is not a 4 star more like a 1 star. Bring your laptop for internet access.

I would recommend hotels that are 5 star and up. This hotel was rated a 4 star and I would rate it a 1 star.

“Good, but avoid the restaurant”

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights during our trip to Pisa. It looks more like a motel from the outside and is far enough away from Pisa town centre that you have to drive (in our case) or maybe get a bus? The hotel staff were polite and helpful and the hotel itself, whilst a little dated in design, was clean and most importantly was air-conditioned (an absolute must, at least in June when we went). The bathroom was clean with a decent shower and we had a mini fridge in our room which was a plus. However, we did make the mistake on our first night of eating dinner in the hotel restaurant which was disappointing to say the least. We ended up paying nearly 50 euros for two very measly and poorly cooked courses and half a litre of wine. Consequently, the following nights we ate out, a particular favourite within walking distance being the Ristorante Salustri which is a very short walk (turn left out of the hotel and walk a hundred yards or so). Excellent food with great service at a reasonable price. Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you are not too bothered about being right in Pisa and are on a budget (we got 3 nights for the price of 2), however, it should be noted that whilst the rating is shown as four star, the actual hotel is more like a 3 star (having a grand piano and a few sculptures round the place doesn't change that!).

Traveller's tip

The tower and piaza are always packed with tourists and street peddlers trying to sell you tacky rubbish. Pisa is really only worth staying at for 1 - 2 nights. Beach-wise, go during the week as the weekends are hell. Avoid Viareggio unless you fancy going to Italy's version of Newquay-peak season. Livorno is quieter, though a little rocky (good for snorkling). Tirrenia was a good compromise (nice sandy beaches) although be aware that some sections of the beach are private.
