Nice location, but not great

Posted 21-Jul-2014
An OK hotel if you're a tourist visiting San Francisco and you didn't drive. We drove from the East Bay for a weekend in the city and parking was a huge headache, as the hotel itself doesn't have a garage. Had to circle the block for an hour or so until there was an open spot to park for the valet, which wasn't exactly cheap, but about average for SF. I wish we had just taken BART. Also, the street noise goes on late into the night. Other than that, it's right on Powell street and a short walk to China Town and North Beach. Kind of reminded me of some hotels I stayed at in Florence, so I guess the name is somewhat fitting...

Location is great!

Room was small and quaint (expected in DT SF). Overall the hotel is nice, but, due for some refurbishing to maintain overall cleanliness.

Not a bad word to say!

From the minute we stepped out of our car at the front of the building until we checked out the following day, Villa Florence was five star all the way. Highly recommended.

Heart of San Francisco

Posted 12-Jul-2014
Pros: Rooms are spacious enough
Cons: Just coffee? No tea in the room?
Location: Tourists who like to shop will like the location.
Villa Florence is at the heart of the city. If you're a tourist and want to see the beautiful and ugly, the endearing and shocking, the delightful and unnerving, well then choose this hotel and experience the colors of San Francisco. If you're faint of heart who prefer a quiet retreat, then look much farther away from the madhouse of a downtown location.

Great Location

Posted 09-Jul-2014
The hotel is in a great location and rooms were clean and comfortable. however, the check in experience was poor and the staff missed an opportunity to be proactive and diffuse a situation. We arrived at 2.15pm, check in was at 3pm and initially the staff were friendly and polite and told us our room wouldn't be ready until 3pm. When we arrived back at 3pm, they said our room 'wasn't showing' as ready and they would need to check personally, they just left us standing for 10 mins before telling us it wasn't ready but it would only take another few minutes. We heard an exchange with housekeeping that suggested a few minutes was at least 10 more minutes so we asked specifically how long it would take and were told, it would only be a 'few'. We were given the excuse that the hotel had been full the night before, staff were busy, etc. None of which were our concern; we were left standing until I suggested to the manager that a complimentary coffee and a seat might be appreciated - their response was i was just about to offer. Our room was finally ready at 3.35pm. Had we have been told immediately that there would be a delay and offered a seat and coffee, the matter would have been resolved, the lack of clarity, excuses and our own initiation of complimentary coffee just made it feel like a hassle.

Parking? FORGET IT!

Posted 08-Jul-2014
Cons: Get a valet/ concierge who cares about your customers. Convert tubs to showers to make bathroom more convenient.
Hotel itself was ok. Request room NOT facing onto Powell Street (facing courtyard for instance) for quiet. Bathroom TINY.And if you are arriving via car be prepared-- we had to park our own car blocks away because the valet/concierge did NOTHING to help us, and SF parking is a nightmare. The hotel's parking lane is right on the main cable car line. This issue, and the tiny bathroom, made our stay disappointing.

Very pleasant surprise

Pros: It was very clean, it had tonnes of character, friendly staff and a great position.
Cons: Can't think of anything
Location: It is in a great shopping area, near the cable car, and two blocks to the BART - we caught the train to the airport with our suitcases no problems.
We booked this hotel through the special deals where you get a great rate on a hotel but don't find out where you are staying until you pay. Looking at the pictures we weren't sure if it was what we wanted but when we arrived, wow, we were blown away. The position is right in the centre of the action, the hotel has a beautiful old world charm, it is spacious (we are a family of four in one room) and elegant and the staff were wonderfully friendly. We loved every bit of this hotel. It is not modern, but it is not old fashioned either, it is absolutely charming and we will be back.
