“A very good accommodation option”
The hotel is located on a very busy street but it met all our needs. The room is functional and clean whilst the hotel itself is very close to a large number of bars and cafes in nearby Steiner and Chestnut Streets. Public transport options are pretty good. We enjoyed San Francisco and would happily retun to Travelodge Golden Gate if we were to return. Breakfast at "The Home Plate" less than a minutes walk away was also a treat.
“Basic, clean, great location, bit noisy.”
The location's great - Chestnut Street right behind the hotel is wonderful for shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and even a supermarket. The bus into town (no 30) stops right there too, very handy. It's a motel format where your room opens directly onto the courtyard where the cars are parked, just off the main street. The hotel's basic but all you'd need if you're on a city break like us and not spending much time at the hotel. The fridge and microwave in all the rooms was handy too. It was really clean and we had lots of space in our room. It was noisy, both from traffic on the very busy Lombard Street (and we were at the back of the hotel, as far as possible from the road) and from other guests coming back to the hotel late and talking loudly or even shouting late into the night and the early morning. We also had an unfortunate incident of a drunk couple talking and taking cocaine right outside our door at 2am one Sunday. They were guests at the hotel, but this had nothing to do with the hotel, it could have happened anywhere, so I'm just mentioning it to remind others to keep their hotel rooms locked when they're in them. Any other hotel in any city could have had this happen - it just happened to be this one while we were there. I would recomend this hotel to anyone needing somewhere well situated, clean and basic as a base to explore San Francisco.
“Great neighborhood”
The location for this little hotel was great. We especially like the surrounding neighborhood. Lots of great places to eat and drink. Perfect access to the Golden Gate Bridge if you're heading to Napa.......
“Great Location for the money”
I would stay here again. I did not have great expectations as the hotel was inexpensive and it was exactly what I expected. All the previous reviews mentioned location and feeling safe in the neighborhood which is exactly what we wanted and what we got. There are great restaurants one block down and the Union Street shops are within walking distance. I would definitely stay again as all I look for in a hotel is a clean safe place to sleep and shower!
“Great location”
Great location on a budget. Road a little noisy but great location to stay for good restaurants after a busy day. Would stay again.
“Great location on Lombard”
Well maintained for an older hotel, but the location made up for it, walking distance to great restaurants and buses. Friendly helpfull staff, easy access free parking. Our room was at the very back so was dark, small, and wifi was spotty, other than that I'd go again but make sure I didn't get that room.
“Great location, will go back!”
The hotel building looks a little shabby, but the room was clean and tidy. We needed a place to sleep in and it was just that. The room wasn't big, but the bed was clean and comfortable and the bathroom had hot water and a nice shower. I recommend it for those that want a good place to crash and to visit the city. The surrounding neighborhood is full of restaurants that are usually open past 9pm. That's great after a long day of walking! And of course, it's great that they have free parking for guests. We had a great time in San Francisco and we will go back to this hotel.
“Golden Gate Travelodge-good locationa dn free parking”
This was one of the few motels in S.F. that had free parking. It was comfortable and clean. Good eating places nearby and not that far from places of interest.
“Can't wait to go back”
Initially by look of the hotel I got scared, because I stayed in similar hotel in new york and it was horrible experience. But surprisingly hotel was good . Representative ware helpful they had excellent knowledge about san Francisco. Cream on the top nearby breakfast restaurant ‘HOT PLATE’ is must visit place.
“Don't judge a book by it's cover”
My husband and I stayed her for 3 nights while honeymooning in the US. We had a tight budget, so we chose this one based on price and guest ratings. When the cab dropped us outside the hotel I almost had a heart attack because it resembles a crack house. I didn't want to stay when I looked at the outside, but my husband convinced me to go in and look at the room, and I'm glad he did, because the room was great. It was a touch small, but it had been recently renovated I think, the bathroom was very nice, the decor was pleasant and it had a fridge, coffee maker, iron etc, all the things you need. The staff were also really helpful and friendly. It was not super close to Fishermans Wharf, but that was only a $10 cab ride away, so I was happy with the location.
