“we got what we paid for”
this small 2 star hotel was excellent. the room was very small but we expected that. the breakfast was a bonus despite its nature, you could have as much as you wanted. we found all of the staff extremely helpful and happy to pass the time of day with you. we could not have asked for a better location. we really enjoyed our stay a great place to explore from.
“very satisfied with this hotel”
Great and fantastic location for stopping in San Francisco. Centrally located for all the shops and everything else you need to have a great stay. The room was very clean and hotel staff very helpful. The Breakfast is basic but found it good enough to start the day. Cable car route is right outside the hotel but for our first two days we walked up and down the hills and it took about a 20 min walk to get down to Fishermans walk. Overall we found this hotel extremely good.. just what we wanted for somewhere to go to bed. If you are on a reasonable budget this hotel we can definately reccommend to others.
“Extremely good value”
Excellent location - couldn't have been better. Small rooms but extremely clean and quiet. The friendly and helpful staff (must mention Jamie) made our stay memorable and we would highly recommend the Stratford because at the price we don't think it could be beaten.
“Fantastic Location & Great Service”
Hotel is situtated on Powell Street, right next to Union Square. Great location and staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We stayed here for two weeks and couldn't fault it. Rooms were a decent size, beds were really comfortable. Rooms had flat screen TV's and were very clean and tidy, with fresh towels and beds made everyday. Breakfast was served from 7.30 - 9.30am daily, but we only made it once, due to lots of partying and late nights!! If you miss breakfast, there are several diners very close by and Starbucks across the street. There is a lovely Irish bar, just round the corner in O'Farrell Street, which has a piano bar downstairs and is definately a great night of entertainment. We highly recommend to anyone to get a 7 day Muni pass for travel, as this allows you access to the trams, buses, cable cars and BART underground system. These cost us $24, which is great value for money, considering that a one way trip of the Cable Cars is $5! These are best to pick up from the INfo booth just inside Union Square, as the Booth near the Cable Car turnaround at the botton of Powell Street gets really busy. There is so much to do and see in the city and maps are available in the hotel lobby, we recommend just hopping on a bus and just seeing as much as you can! We will DEFINATELY be going back!!
“Location, Location, Location”
Whilst this is a relatively basic hotel in comparison with others like the Palace Hotel, it is well worth staying here. Let's face it, most of the time, you will be out all day anyway! This hotel is perfectly located on Powell, next to Union Square and all the shops you could wish for! The cable car line is right on your street, a cool used dvd/cd etc store (Rasputin), nfl/nhl/nba/mlb store, food galore and just 20 mins walk to JapanTown and about 45mins along Market, Embarcadero to the awesome Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. Just 20mins walk to the Caltrain station at 4th+King to catch San Jose Sharks NHL hockey at HP Pavilion too. Oh and decent breakfast too - drinks, cereals, muffins, toast to set you up for the day if you need it. If not, the cool Lori's Diner is on your street too! Staff are helpful and friendly too. All in all, a great location with great value! What more could you need?

“Best Budget Hotel in San Francisco !”
A great little hotel ,in a perfect location for the Powell Mason/Hyde cable car line. The hotel is just off Union square and is idea for anyone on a tight budget . The rooms are quite small , however everything is neat and tidy. Breakfast is a simple affair consisitng of muffins, cereal, toast, juice and coffee. There is also afternoon tea on 3 days of the week. Frankly this hotel is a bit of a bargain and I would be very happy to stay here again
“great location”
the hotel is in a great central location so you can easily get to most parts of the city and is right on the cable car line. the street is busy, so we were glad to have requested a quiet room at the back, otherwise the noise (& smell from the lush shop) could be a bit much. Lift was painfully slow - take the stairs. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful, breakfast was ok but basic. Rooms were clean comfortable and "cosy". overall hotel was very good value for money.
“Hotel Stratford, April 2010”
A nice hotel, not luxurious but perfectly adequate and the location is great. Rare case of a hotel where the lobby looks a bit shabby but the rooms are very nice. Not the place for lavish breakfasting, though (v limited choice), but as I'm not a breakfast man I went only once or twice. All in all: highly recommended.
“Great value and a great location”
The Stratford Hotel is very central; excellently located to explore San Francisco. My room was well presented, was cleaned daily and had a good shower. The staff were friendly. Breakfast is nothing to write home about but it's there if you want to save money and there are plenty of nearby options if you want to head out for something more exciting.
