Older Hotel

Posted 15-Jul-2014
Pros: Staff
Cons: Building
Not impressed. Would not recommend to a friend. Older room, dated bathroom, new furniture but old building. Helpful staff but out of date building.

Dear Carlton, The Drake is one of the historic buildings that was built in 1928. During our renovation, we updated with keeping the 'old-world' charm in tact. I can certainly appreciate that it's not everyone's cup of tea. I'm glad that you enjoyed our staff. Regards, Jim Gross, General Manager

Dear Carlton, The Drake as locals call it is a 1928 historic building. I can certainly appreciate that it may not be new and not everyone's cup of tea. Instead of stark appearance, San Francisco history is found in many areas of the hotel; Prohibition Room as an example. If and when you want to learn more about what 20's was like in this city, please visit us. Sincerely, Jim Gross, General Manager

An ok experience

Posted 14-Jul-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: The hotel is expensive to stay in and realising that in return customers do not wish to stay in a 'shoe box' of a room.
Location: Very close to Union Square. Lots to do nearby in terms of shopping. Cable car stop right outside the hotel.
Not sure what I was expecting but felt somewhat underwhelmed by the place. The location of the hotel is excellent - close to Union Square, the shops and the cable cars. You could not really ask for better but this is probably reflected in the high cost of staying there. My disappointment really came in the room - really small; enough for a bed, a desk, tv and not much else. The bathroom was equally small- everything could be reached from one standing position! Room was clean but just all a bit claustrophobic when in there. Helpfulness of staff very varied - some could not do enough for you; others made you feel as if you were bothering them. Overall the hotel was ok but there are others I have stayed at in the vicinity that are better.

Dear JS, I greatly appreciate your feedback! I agree, our location speaks for itself as Union Square offers all kind of shopping and dining experiences! The Drake (as locals call it), is one of the historic buildings that was built in 1928. Unlike more modern hotels, our room varies in sizes; some much cozier, others much larger to accommodate a family! We hope that we can 'Wow' you on your next stay with us. Dear JS, Thanks for choosing the Drake. I have to agree, our location is most conveniently located for exploring what SF has to offer. Our goal is to make sure that every guest leaves here with a huge smile. Needless to say, it is equally disappointing to learn that your experience was rather underwhelmed. The room size varies; smaller to larger to accommodate a family and depending on the availability, we are happy to find a room that is more satisfactory to your needs. As for my staff, I will definitely address your concerns to my staff. We all hope that you'll choose us so that we can Wow you! Regards, Jim Gross, General Manager

Hello, Thanks for staying at the Drake! I'm disappointed to learn that you did not like our beds. They are one of the best qualities in the market. I can certainly appreciate that firmness of the bed wasn't what you were looking for. Our parking rate is very compatible to surrounding hotels as the same parking company owns and manages many of the hotel parking garages. SF is better visited on foot as parking spaces are very limited. We hope that you'll visit us soon. Regards, Jim Gross, General Manager

Good location for union square but rooms and bathrooms are very small. Not recommended for family. Parking is expensive, about $60 a night, but in general sf is.

Hello, Hopefully you took full advantage of our location to visit all the places you had on your agenda! The Drake is one of the historic buildings that was built in 1928 and the room size varies. There are much bigger rooms that are better fit for a family. San Francisco has very limited parking spaces, especially around Union Square and downtown area. It is better visited via public transit and on foot. We hope that you'll visit us soon. Regards, Jim Gross, General Manager

Great hotel, great location

Posted 04-Jul-2014
Pros: Very convenient location and superb lobby. Despite the decoration, the room was perfectly comfortable. Free internet is a plus.
Location: Very central and walking distance to many place one wants to visit in San Fransisco.
Very comfortable hotel and accommodating staff. The room we requested was assigned to us but was not ready by 3 pm; however, we were offered another great room which we chose to take.

Never Again

Posted 03-Jul-2014
Location: Best thing about the place was the location, something to see or do at every turn!
Rooms are small and updates are needed. The bathroom is so small your legs almost touch the door when your sitting on the toilet. Plus 62 dollars for parking and it takes more than 30 minutes to get your car! Not worth the cost, ill never stay here again!

Hello, Thanks for staying at the Drake. We have gone through a renovation few years ago but we also wanted to preserve the old-world charm of this 1928 historic building, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. The room size varies, much cozier room that is suitable for a single traveler to a suite size to accommodate a family. I am aware that our bathroom is smaller than more modern hotels, but we try to best utilize the space by adding extra shelves. Our parking rate is very compatible to other hotels in the area as most of are managed by the same parking company and there are public parking garages all within the area. We pride ourselves in providing the best service among other hotels and do hope that you'll give us another opportunity to serve you. Regards, Jim Gross, General Manager

BEWARE of Made Up Charges

Posted 02-Jul-2014
Pros: Valet Guy
Cons: Obviously their computer system that tracks charges for guests.
They charged us for movies that we did not watch. In fact, we did not even turn on the TV once. It made no difference to them as we must have been lying in their opinion. Their opinion is the only one that counts. I will never stay here and recommend that you all stay away. Bad Business.
