Hard beds and small rooms

Posted 29-Jul-2014
Pros: Lobby was beautiful, free coffee in the morning and it is actually good.
Cons: The size of our first room should be for one occupant or for very small people.
Location: great location
This hotel is just as beautiful as the pictures. The staff was nice when we first checked in, and told them that we were on our honeymoon, but when a new shift started that mostly changed. We had a problem with our room, mainly the size. It was much smaller than the bedroom in our tiny apartment and held a desk, dresser, and desk chair. There was no mini bar in the first room. The queen size bed is actually a full size bed. We know this because my husband is 6'8" and on a queen size bed his feet hang off the end at the ankle, not the shin/calf like his did on this bed. When laying in the bed, his feet were about 6" from the opposite wall, which meant that when I needed to go to the bathroom I hit his legs, waking him up...had we switched sides the same thing would have happened when I needed something from my luggage. Also, the bed was rock hard. They changed our room for the second night, to a room a with two beds on a higher floor and it was nice and spacious, but still the mattress was hard and aggravated my back. We paid approx. $600 for the room, taxes, and fees for 2 nights. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Westin less than a block away.

Centrally located nice hotel. Staff was nice, room was comfortable & clean. Would like to be able to get a drink or a cup of coffee at any time with out leaving the hotel. Hotel had limited hours on those services, bar in lobby was not always open.

Hello, Thanks! The Drake's location speaks for itself, but glad to hear that you enjoyed our staff! We have limited numbers of coffee makers in our Housekeeping and can be brought up to your room at your request. Although, Bar Drake in our lobby is not open throughout the day, the bar in Scala's Bistro is open during the restaurant hours. We hope to see you soon. Sincerely, Jim Gross, General Manager

Nice stay in the city

Posted 28-Jul-2014
The hotel was beautiful and very conveniently located. The staff was extremely helpful. My only complaint would be the room size. It was a bit small, but when you're staying in union square, you aren't typically spending much time in your room anyhow!

Dear kim, You said it right! Hopefully, many of the people are here to explore this beautiful 'City by the Bay'. If you opt to stay in a room, you can be assured that our rooms are nice and clean, some are much bigger than others. Our location speaks for itself and hope you enjoyed your stay! Luxurious and location great.

The only complaint is that the bathroom vanity was so small there was NO room to put toiletries. Plenty of room. Just poor design. Toilet paper holder hit your elbow and was right in the way of flushing the toilet!? Again poor design. Air conditioner could not be adjusted to where we were most comfortable, but we managed.

Great location

Posted 21-Jul-2014
I loved the location of the hotel but was disappointed in the room size. It was tiny. There was barely enough room to move about. The queen sized bed was comfortable but took up most of the room. The compact bathroom required that I close the door to fit on the toilet and access the toilet paper and I'm 5'0, 110 pounds! I wasn't allowed to check in early and although I requested a room with the best view, I got to stare at windows of an adjacent building. It stayed noisy as well.

Dear Kelly, Thanks for your review. Our location speaks for itself and sorry that you were disappointed with our room size. Although, some rooms are cozier than others, we do have bigger rooms. We often allow our guests to check in earlier, but please know that it all depends on how many check-out we have on that day. That said, if we have a room available, we can definitely meet your request! Sincerely, Jim Gross, General Manager

Noisy downtown hotel

Posted 21-Jul-2014
Pros: location
Cons: new windows, softer beds, new pillows.
Room was tiny, but well decorated. bed was clean but very hard. pillows were flat as could be and no extras to be found. Single pane window in our room on the 5th floor made for a very noisy and unrelaxing experience. However, location right near Union square and on the street car line is ideal for seeing and exploring the city.

Dear jessica, The Drake is situated on the one of the most 'happening' block in San Francisco! We are surrounded by world-class shopping and dining, not to mention very central to all the places you may want to visit. An extra pillow or two may be brought up when you request through Housekeeping. Thanks! Jim Gross, General Manager

great experience

Posted 21-Jul-2014
The hotel was really nice and the staff was awesome. At night I needed an extra blanket and when I called, I heard a knock on the door about 5 seconds later with my blanket. There was a lot of older crowd in the lobby/bar area. The starlight lounge is nice, the only issue is there is no ventilation and it gets super hot. All the windows were foggy and it was hard to see the view. The bed was extremely comfortable the sheets were extra soft, all I wanted to do is stay and sleep. :)

We had a great experience for one night. The view could have been more appealing, but otherwise, we had a great experience.

Older Hotel

Pros: Staff
Cons: Building
Not impressed. Would not recommend to a friend. Older room, dated bathroom, new furniture but old building. Helpful staff but out of date building.

Dear Carlton, The Drake is one of the historic buildings that was built in 1928. During our renovation, we updated with keeping the 'old-world' charm in tact. I can certainly appreciate that it's not everyone's cup of tea. I'm glad that you enjoyed our staff. Regards, Jim Gross, General Manager

Dear Carlton, The Drake as locals call it is a 1928 historic building. I can certainly appreciate that it may not be new and not everyone's cup of tea. Instead of stark appearance, San Francisco history is found in many areas of the hotel; Prohibition Room as an example. If and when you want to learn more about what 20's was like in this city, please visit us. Sincerely, Jim Gross, General Manager
