“Go here, only if you can't find anything else. The wireless access in the rooms are terrible.”
The rooms are spacious. The interior looks ok, but at the price you pay here, you can find something better (in terms of quality but a little bit smaller) room very near SF downtown. Also the wireless access in the rooms is unusable. You have to go to the hotel lobby to use the internet.
“Filthy”
Dirty, dusty, the elevators are too old and makes one feel unsafe. The rooms and the corridor stinks. No breakfast and they charge $24 for parking. We had booked for 3 days but we left after10 hours.
“Good for its cost”
NO PARKING!!! Old hotel old rooms but pretty clean. Average service... Central location but kind of loud in the outside
“Noy that much good”
Full of homeless people , small bath room. smelly room
“wifi in the lobby”
normal hotel... a little bit older but ok
“So so”
it's really an old building~ there are two doors for elevator(need to manually open the 1st wooden door), we stayed one night then checked out for Yosemite tour and then came back again. The room we were given is facing the street and is very noisy, we can't sleep well. But when we came back, we got a room x05, it is much better. No wifi signal in the room. But the location is good, can walk to Union square ( 8 blocks) or take the bus#38.The bus stop of #38 is just on the opsite of hotel .And there is a small super-market on the corner of polk street and Geary street, where you may prepare water, bread, fruit for the 2nd day trip - this is good.
“the bear”
The Monarch has somewhat of an ourworn splendor, but I liked the atmosphere there. The service is friendly, the rooms are clean, the matrasses are good. The hotel is situated near to downtown and near to a cable car line. The homepage needs an update, its informtion is not always correct.
“Beware, this isn't for everyone. If you want fancy, find anothere place”
I booked this hotel 6 weeks out and requested a queen smoking room and prepaid via Expedia. I arrived around 7pm the day of the show and was told that I had a King smoking room, if I didn't want that I could have a queen smoking or 2 doubles. There were no non-smoking rooms. The desk guy was a bit a smug stating "you already paid, no refunds so you can stay or not". I didn't feel like paying for another 2 nights a different hotel and I knew the city was booked up. I stayed and made my way up to my room. This place needs a GOOD cleaning and a makeover, The room on first look was clean but shabby. I pulled the bed from the wall to check for bedbugs and saw them piles of white powder and dead bugs lining the wall. gross! The bed was clean, sheets clean and thankfully the room didn't smell like smoke. I opened all the crappy windows and let the fresh SF air fill the room. The closet was huge, bigger than some rooms I seen in SF, the bathroom tiny but spotless. The sink didn't drain and in the morning it was filled with specks of cigarette ashes that had backed up in the night. The neighborhood is cool, walking distances to good bars and food. If you want a "nice" hotel, forget it. If you can handle a pretty clean room in a funky hotel at a fair price, stay here. Usually there are lot's of hotels for less in SF so shop around!
“Nice place”
We stayed at this hotel twice, liked it both times, no problems with anything, it's in a convenient place of the city, not in the center though.Overall, i would recommend this hotel, pretty good deal.
“Value for money”
