Great location in downtown

Posted 16-Aug-2014
Pros: Its location.
Cons: Opaque curtains in the restroom (no-brainer)
Location: 5 minutes walk from cable car.
Its location is both a curse and a blessing. It is in the heart of downtown at walking distance from the Moscone convention center. It is also close to several convenient public transportation stations to explore the rest of the city. However, this makes the prices in the "very fancy" range, and the hotel does not provide the luxury typically associated with 200 and up $ /night rooms. Indeed, although the room had plenty of space and a nice "old-times" feel to it, there was no "opaque" curtain for the restroom, which means that anyone in the parking structure in front could look at us go to the restroom at their leisure. In addition, the TV listings are among the worst I've seen (barely basic cable-level). The parking is in front of the location (a public parking structure) and costs about 35-40$/day with taxes. The hotel will sell you a pass for slightly more which will allow you to go in and out of the structure as you please (but then, who wants to drive in downtown SF?) So all in all, the place is totally fine, but do not expect any kind of luxury, even at 200-300$/night.

Not what is advertised

Posted 07-Aug-2014
The rooms are extremely small, and the hotel is very outdated. We had two rooms for five people (one was a 15 year old) and it was very cramped. We had to request a roll away bed four times before we received one. They did waive the $20 fee for the bed because of the long wait. The bathroom sinks were cracked, and the paint was peeling. There was no air conditioning that we could find and only one room had a window that would open.

anniversary trip

Posted 04-Aug-2014
Pros: It is clean, quiet, & perfectly located. The staff are courteous & knowledgeable. Also, it is tastefully decorated, without excess.
Cons: Maybe an extra hook on the bathroom wall, & the little shower caps that I always forget, would be nice. Nothing major.
Location: There is a Biscuits & Blues just a few doors down, with spicey-good food and great music. Then there are wonderful art galleries very nearby.
The lobby was clean & nicely decorated. The staff at the desk took care of us right away. Our gear was stored tho it was hours before check-in time. Everyone showed us great courtesy & made us feel secure. The location could not have been better, for dining, dancing & gallery hopping. The day & evening concierges were so helpful, it really made our trip memorable. We will most certainly visit here again.

Location and value are great for Union Square area

Posted 04-Aug-2014
Pros: Location and price.
Location: Everything is walkable, from all transportation to Chinatown to shopping. Lots of restaurant choices around, too.
Historical building in Union Square area. It is within walking distance of almost anything you'll need in downtown. Price is a good value compared to other options in the area, more comfort than a hostel, cheaper than the five-stars. Front desk staff was out-of-their-way helpful. We stayed a whole week so they offered us a mini-fridge for free, nice touch.

Good value in convenient location

Posted 12-Jul-2014
Pros: Friendly, helpful and efficient staff.
Cons: Decorations a bit tired, but currently undergoing a refurbishment programme. Only one small lift caused small delays.
Location: Biscuits and Blues club opposite is good. John's Grill is about a two minute walk away on Ellis and they have great steaks.
SF is an expensive place to stay and this is a good value hotel in a central location near Union Square. It is about a ten minute walk from the Powell St Bart station so getting there from the airport is not a problem. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous and are one of the hotels big assets. The decorations were a little tired, but it is going through a remodelling process at presnt and I am sure it will become even more desirable soon. There is a good blues music venue accross the street called Biscuits and Blues that I would also recommend if you like a relaxed, low key, live music experience.

A typical downtown hotel

Posted 08-Jul-2014
Pros: Location, cleanliness
Cons: Installation of a modern elevator
This hotel is located in downtown SF and it's going through a remodel. The hotel is surrounded by diners and is just steps from city bus lines and tourist buses. The place has an arrangement with a huge parking facility just across the street. Our room has probably been renovated. It was clean but small without microwave or refrigerator. The doorsteps are narrow. There's only one elevator and it's small, old and slow. What I'm trying to say is that it's a good place for individuals and couples, but families with young children should take into account some inconvenience. Again, the location is good and the price affordable.

Noisy Thursday night

Posted 07-Jul-2014
Pros: Nice staff, close to restaurants, shopping, and museums
Cons: NO trash pick up in the middle of the night. I could hear bottles clanking against each other all night as they sorted the trash bins.
Location: California Historical Museum, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Yoruba Park
My sister and I stayed at King George Thursday and Friday. Thursday was terribly noisy due to trash collection and noisy people outside that we could hear ALL NIGHT LONG.Friday was a better night as no noise outside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Apparently if you get a room with 2 double beds it backs up to the area outside where they do trash collection, but all the other rooms are fine. We talked with other guests and they had a quieter night than us in regular rooms on that Thursday.
