Lots of SF Character

Posted 25-Aug-2014
A great boutique-y hotel for the price. It had a lot of San Francisco character to it and it was in a convenient location to Union Square. Don't come here expecting large rooms (although that really goes for all of SF), but you definitely feel like you are in the city. They had a small bar with a happy hour and prompt service.

Could do better, but at higher cost.

Posted 20-Aug-2014
Pros: Reasonable price compared to surrounding larger hotels.
Location: Excellent location within easy walking distance of Powell BART station, Union Square, Chinatown, and F tramway line.
We stayed for two nights. We had room 818, which is right over the exhaust fan of the diner adjacent to the hotel. This created continual noise and smells. The room had one king size bed and two nightstands, no other furniture. No drawers other than in the nightstands. No place to open suitcases other than on the bed. However, room was clean and renovated.

Close to Union Square, offering tourist facilities

Posted 19-Aug-2014
Pros: It was clean and our maid service was good. Coffee was made available in the lounge early in the morning.
Cons: Pricing.
Location: Just off Union Square - it has lots of restaurants, a food and beverage store close by. Walking distance to cable car. It's busy and can be noisy.
The one downside of our stay was that the twin-bedded room we had booked (and paid for) had been "given away" when we arrived, and a queen bedded room was substituted; this shocked us but seemed to the hotel staff to be entirely acceptable practice. The queen room was deluxe which was supposed to make up for what we had specified as important to us - 2 beds. That problem was handled by giving us a "free" cot in the queen room for one night till "our" room was available, and the rest of our stay was fine. SF hotels are expensive but this one seems overpriced for what it offers. Small rooms, with poor closet space, for instance. However, we found it just fine for our purposes --basically a bedroom while attending a conference. Instead of air-conditioning, the room had a good ceiling fan, meaning we could keep the windows closed at night, useful because the hotel is in a busy and thus potentially noisy area.

Great location in downtown

Posted 16-Aug-2014
Pros: Its location.
Cons: Opaque curtains in the restroom (no-brainer)
Location: 5 minutes walk from cable car.
Its location is both a curse and a blessing. It is in the heart of downtown at walking distance from the Moscone convention center. It is also close to several convenient public transportation stations to explore the rest of the city. However, this makes the prices in the "very fancy" range, and the hotel does not provide the luxury typically associated with 200 and up $ /night rooms. Indeed, although the room had plenty of space and a nice "old-times" feel to it, there was no "opaque" curtain for the restroom, which means that anyone in the parking structure in front could look at us go to the restroom at their leisure. In addition, the TV listings are among the worst I've seen (barely basic cable-level). The parking is in front of the location (a public parking structure) and costs about 35-40$/day with taxes. The hotel will sell you a pass for slightly more which will allow you to go in and out of the structure as you please (but then, who wants to drive in downtown SF?) So all in all, the place is totally fine, but do not expect any kind of luxury, even at 200-300$/night.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your recent stay with us and we’re happy that you were pleased with our centralized location to the renowned Union Square Area and within walking distance to Moscone Center. We understand that overnight lodging costs in San Francisco can be expensive, which is why we offer prices that are very competitive as compared to our competing hotels in the area. I appreciate your feedback regarding curtains in the bathroom and will follow up accordingly. We’d welcome the opportunity to accommodate you in the future! Sincerely, Bertrand H. Not what is advertised

Posted 07-Aug-2014
The rooms are extremely small, and the hotel is very outdated. We had two rooms for five people (one was a 15 year old) and it was very cramped. We had to request a roll away bed four times before we received one. They did waive the $20 fee for the bed because of the long wait. The bathroom sinks were cracked, and the paint was peeling. There was no air conditioning that we could find and only one room had a window that would open.

anniversary trip

Posted 04-Aug-2014
Pros: It is clean, quiet, & perfectly located. The staff are courteous & knowledgeable. Also, it is tastefully decorated, without excess.
Cons: Maybe an extra hook on the bathroom wall, & the little shower caps that I always forget, would be nice. Nothing major.
Location: There is a Biscuits & Blues just a few doors down, with spicey-good food and great music. Then there are wonderful art galleries very nearby.
The lobby was clean & nicely decorated. The staff at the desk took care of us right away. Our gear was stored tho it was hours before check-in time. Everyone showed us great courtesy & made us feel secure. The location could not have been better, for dining, dancing & gallery hopping. The day & evening concierges were so helpful, it really made our trip memorable. We will most certainly visit here again.

Location and value are great for Union Square area

Posted 04-Aug-2014
Pros: Location and price.
Location: Everything is walkable, from all transportation to Chinatown to shopping. Lots of restaurant choices around, too.
Historical building in Union Square area. It is within walking distance of almost anything you'll need in downtown. Price is a good value compared to other options in the area, more comfort than a hostel, cheaper than the five-stars. Front desk staff was out-of-their-way helpful. We stayed a whole week so they offered us a mini-fridge for free, nice touch.

5 min away from a Bart station. 5 mins away from union square. Friendly staff. Hotel has character. Room is small but everything is clean and new. Had not seen any ghosts during my two nights stay here.
