Great hotel, fabulous price, and perfect location

Posted 07-Jul-2014
We stayed on the 9th floor during a heat wave. The only street noise we heard from the open window was the trumpet playing from Union Square. It was a great stay. The staff was courteous and always willing to help. The theater is on the second floor. A piano is on the bottom floor with sherry and tea served daily at 4-6 pm. The location was also great!

Great location, room was a little "tired"

Posted 07-Jul-2014
Pros: Entire front desk staff is always so helpful. I witnessed very sympathetic response to guest with some unidentified misfortune. Awesome housekeepers.
Cons: A little maintenance would improve Room #10 and any room in similar conditino.
Location: Disney Museum (4 miles) is fantastic. Sodini's Restaurant in North Beach-even better than Soto Mare! Moustafa @ Saks is #1 in men's fragrances.
I've happily stayed at the Kensington Park Hotel 3 times before. However, this time I must have drawn their worst room (#10). The carpet was buckled and badly in need of stretching; the glass bathroom shelf is installed at an angle so everything rolls off, rendering it unusable; the top drawer of the dresser was not usable because it falls out - just to name a few things. Should have tried to change room, but husband was immovable. Not the hotel's fault but, like in Manhattan, there is a lot of noise outside day and night, so next time try to get a higher floor to abate the noise.

Beware climate control

Posted 07-Jul-2014
Expedia claims climate control but no a/c and very old and tiny rooms. Also no fitness facilities and no room service. Won't go back.

Close to shops and restaurants.

Great stay. Quite hotel with great views of the city. Late, noon, check out allows an easy morning and a nice brunch nearby before leaving the hotel. Smaller room size not for spending very long time there. But one would be out enjoy the city, shops and restaurants anyway.

Very Charming

Posted 04-Jul-2014
Pros: I loved the way it was decorated. Almost made me feel like I was visiting it in its heyday.
Cons: The only thing that could have made it better would be if they offered/included breakfast.
Location: Right around the corner from Union Square, very close to a bus stop, and lots of nearby shopping. Chinatown is about a 10 minute walk.
Quaint hotel right around the corner from Union Square. The lobby was done up in 1800s style decor and was absolutely enchanting, and between 4 and 6 pm they serve complimentary tea and sherry. The rooms were a bit more modern, though they did have a couple of pieces of antique furniture. The beds were comfy, the staff was friendly, and the hotel is pet friendly, even going so far as to have a welcoming bowl of water and bucket of treats for canine guests. No AC, but it wasn't that hot during our stay and the ceiling fan was good enough for me. The hotel was also close to a bus stop as well as a cable car stop.

Full of personality

Posted 26-Jun-2014
Pros: See above
Cons: Redo carpets
Location: Excellent central location. Jazz in union square was good and chinatown is a great conduit to fisherman's wharf!
Second visit and we will be back. The hotel has lots of history and quirkiness that handsomely distinguishes it from modern robotic hotels.

Great Location & nice hotel

Posted 16-Jun-2014
Pros: Location, comfort and staff.
Cons: Old building - I don't think you can do much about the elevator.
Location: About 1 block off of Union Square - 2 doors up from Morton's Steak House. Nice little restaurant 1 door up. Walking distance to just about everything
The staff was very good. Knowledgeable. They made it easy to be a single traveler. Helpful in every way. Only downside - elevator a little slow.
