Great access to Union Square

Posted 21-Jan-2015
Great access to union square and public transportation. David, the concierge, was great. Every food/restaurant recommendation of his was spot on and delicious. All the hotel staff was friendly. The rooms were smaller than they appeared on their website, but the beds and linens were comfortable. The complimentary tea, coffee and sherry were nice.

Needs updating. Brass fittings on shower/bath were tarnished and didn't cover tile hole. Window did not open correctly. Tv reception poor. Bed was comfortable. Staff was good.

Beautiful, historic hotel best deal around

Posted 10-Jan-2015
Pros: The historic comfort of the boutique hotel.
Cons: Better signage, friendly valet, easier places to unload.
Location: The location is safe and near lots of shopping. We were able to walk to most of the attractions very quickly.
The hotel was beautiful though they are undergoing construction. When you arrive, you take a step back in time to a more ornate dat. My room was very quiet and had an ok view. The bed linens and other expected amenities were superb. We are not greeted by the valet nor the staff with much urgency, but the front desk people were nice.

Ideal location

Had a great 4 day stay. Quiet room, very comfy bed, terrific shower with lots of hot water (at all times of day), & a view window that opened for fresh air. Easy walking distance to Cable Car, F Trolly line, & Powell Bart station making all of SF easily accessible. The AI Weiwei installation was an huge added bonus to the Alcatraz visit.

Not worth the $$

Posted 03-Jan-2015
We booked this room for two nights, wanting something in central San Francisco. On Expedia it was advertised at $170 night total. The booking process took it to $200/night. Then parking was $45/night - taking the room to over $250/night after taxes. We were told there was breakfast - it was coffee. The room was very small. I'd recommend a Motor Inn downtown (there was many) over this overpriced hotel.

The hotel is very old, but clean. It is not a posh hotel. The room was refurbished and remodeled inside, which was a nice surprise. The bed was very comfortable. Only half a block away from Union Square and very convenient.

Christmas shopping getaway

We thought this place was perfect for us. The room was nice and very reasonably priced, especially for it's great location. We wouldn't hesitate to come back again.
