Great central location; Friendly Staff

Posted 17-Dec-2014
Pros: Location; Staff
This is an older hotel, so the rooms have a European feel to them (e.g., there isn't an abundance of space!). But the bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. The location near Union Square is also very convenient for getting around, particularly with the cable car stop outside the front door. The staff were fantastic. I was visiting during the Dec 11"storm of the decade" when the power was lost for 3 hours. I was still able to get a cold breakfast (staff had flashlights) and we were kept up to date with news of the repair efforts. It was well done.

We will definitely stay here again! Great staff, perfect location, adequately priced. Loved the umbrella in the closet. Really simple touch that goes long way!

Close to Union Square

Posted 16-Dec-2014
Cons: It is really noisy if you stay on the Powell St. side of the hotel. I don't know how to improve that---just try not to get a room on the Powell side.
We have stayed at the Chancellor many times because it is convenient for shopping, fine dining and theatres. The valet parking is helpful and the rooms are clean. Breakfast is good, too. We will return.

Great Hotel

Posted 16-Dec-2014
Pros: Location, location, location!!
Cons: Decor and facilities a bit dated but did not impact on our stay.
Location: Union Square right on doorstep.
Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in November and had a wonderful time. Yes it is a little dated..yes there are no tea making facilities in the room....yes there is no air conditioning, but I could not fault our stay. The location of the hotel was fantastic (right on union square), the staff were pleasant and helpful and the hotel provides coffee, tea and cookies at reception for everyone. Would recommend this hotel to all my friends.

GREAT Union Square location.

Posted 14-Dec-2014
Pros: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. I like that my room didn't look like a big hotel chain room. The lobby is small, but it's charming and cozy. Staff.
Cons: I like it just the way it is. It wouldn't be the same if changes were made.
Location: At Union Square. World class shopping right there. Cable car half a block away. Easy to go to wharf. Close to Market Street. BART 4 blocks away.
Hotel located right at Union Square. You can catch cable car half a block from the hotel. Macys is a block from the hotel. Fabulous shopping all walking distance. I had a great view of the Union Square Christmas tree from my room. Met some really interesting people at the bar, both repeat regular visitors and locals. They all love this place. Even if I didn't stay here I would go back to the bar and hope to run into them again. The bartender was nice and had great ideas for places to go. This hotel will be my first choice of places to stay when visiting San Francisco now. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved the cucumber water in the lobby and late night cookies. Room was small, as was the older bathroom. I took the little rubber ducky. It was so cute and I assume everybody takes them. But the room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable. Felt like an authentic visit to San Francisco whereas those big hotel chain rooms look the same all over the country. would like to buy one of those white comforters that was on my bed. Just what I'm looking for. They even have umbrellas in the closet and at the front desk you can use while you're there.

Nice small hotel in the heart of Union Square

Posted 12-Dec-2014
Pros: Great rate and value, and comfortable bed.
Cons: Valet parking speed.
Location: Perfect location for tourists--world class shopping, dining, entertainment all within easy walk.
A very nice little hotel in a very central Union Square location. The room was very small but nicely appointed and very comfortable for my brief stay. A tiny bar in the lobby but so many great bars and restaurants just steps away. Very helpful staff. Only complaint is that it took almost 45 minutes for the valet to bring my car around--and that's more the fault of San Francisco itself than the staff, who were apologetic. I'd definitely stay there again and recommend it--great value in an expensive city.

Nice hotel close to Union Square. Clean.

Posted 06-Dec-2014
Pros: Front desk, consierge service, delicious coffee, fresh water, cookies and apples in lobby 24/7.
Cons: Size of rooms....impossible. They are small.
Location: Centrally located. You can walk or take trolley. Four blocks from Bart station.
Centrally located. A European feel to this wonderful gem across from Union Square. Small rooms but clean and adequate with comfy bed. Small bathroom a bit tight for my tall, built husband. Fine for me, I'm small. We always stay here when we visit the city. Now they have added a very nice, delicious restaurant...a bonus, to a place we love.
