“Great spot, would recommend”

We stayed for three nights in December and cant fault the place. Great location for shopping, central to everything and getting transport, however we did spend more time out of this area in fishermans wharf, bridge area etc. A refrigerator would have been nice. Complimentary coffee and cookies were a nice touch, and all staff very helpful.

Area recommendations

The wharf area is very touristy but you have to see it, same as alcatraz and the bridges. I liked the old pin ball machine (museum) near pier 41 (where the sub and liberty ship are, another couple of things worth seeing).

Must see

We ended up getting on one of the trolleys with only about 10 other people and found it something different and fun, however we wouldnt have bothered if it was jam packed, that would probably take all the fun out of it as other reviews commented!

“Great Location BUT”

The location of the hotel could not have been better being on the corner of Union Sq and on the cable car line. Cost of the hotel was reasonable for location. However the hotel itself is tired and you do not expect the sheets or the bed cover to have holes, not even darned ones which these weren't. Bar facility was non existent: advertised as happy hour 5 till 7.30. Not open at other times and the one time we were in the hotel at 7.15 it was shut. Could do with coffee making facility in room as 90% or more hotels have in this day and age. However coffee was available in the lobby 24/7.

Area recommendations

Union Square. Easy access to tour buses, cable car, China Town, Little Italy and all sights.

Getting around

Easy access to transport. Do not have a car in Frisco.

“Good Choice”

“Great hotel”

This is a really comfortable hotel in the perfect location for sightseeing and shopping. Cable car is right outside the door and the Powell BART/muni station is at the end of the street. This hotel has real san Francisco character and charm, the rooms are a good size with a great television and nice bathroom. The staff were really friendly and the complementary tea, coffee and cookies in the lobby was a really nice touch. I would definately recommend this hotel!

“A great experience!”

It was a quaint hotel, very clean and nicely decorated, with the character that comes with older buildings. The room was small, but comfortable. I loved the bathtub; it was nice and deep. It was a great location and wonderfully convenient, as we were in town for a convention as the Moscone Center and for some light sight-seeing. The staff was very accommodating (i.e., helping with our luggage and lending us umbrellas). We were there for 5 nights.

Financial district, Chinatown, Marina/Embarcadero

Getting around

We used a rental car during this trip, and while the parking fees were steep, it worked out for us since we didn't stay within the limits of San Francisco. Otherwise, the public transportation is wonderful. You must do at least one cable car ride.

Must see

If you have a rental car, San Francisco has a little-known 49-mile drive that takes you all around the city and is a neat overview of the city. It can take some time because of lights and traffic, but there are some awesome views that are along the drive. I recommend doing an internet search to find some information about it. I was able to find the route for my gps.
