“Nice inexpensive hotel”

Very good service. Only complaint is that room was fairly noisy, street noise-sirens, etc.

“Satisfied”

I needed a hotel for 2 nights while attending a conference. The hotels closest to the conference center were outrageously expensive. The Beresford Arms was very reasonable, making the cost very comfortable. The front desk clerks were kind, helpful, and always ready and willing to offer their services. Overall, I am satisfied with this hotel.

Getting there
The metro is just under a mile away from the hotel. Downtown San Francisco is easy to walk in. I would suggest taking the metro from the airport to downtown San Franscisco, then walking to the hotel (if you don't have very much luggage). It's much much cheaper than a taxi.

“Extremely Helpful Staff”

The staff was extremely kind to us during our stay. They held wine and cheeese receptions daily during which they were extremely friendly and wanted to please. In addition we had a situation in which we left something at the hotel, only discovering this when we arrived at the airport. We called the hotel; they found what we had lost, and when we arrived back at the hotel they gave us free use of a day room to rest until our rescheduled flight departed. They really went above and beyond what they had to do.

Area recommendations
area around Union Square, the Marina, North Beach-Fisherman's Wharf, and Union Street are the most lively locations in the city.

“Fantastic Location”

We enjoy staying at the Beresford Arms Hotel & Suites. It is located close to Union Square and several Thai restaurants. The rooms are comfortable and clean. We had a suite with kitchen facilities. The hotel serves a continental breakfast. There is a laundromat just across the road which was very handy. The free Wifi and use of 2 computers also made this hotel a great choice to be able to keep in touch with family and friends in Australia. The afternoon complimentary drinks with cheese and biscuits also encourages people to mingle with other travellers.

“ideal place to stay”

excellent service, huge room with large bathroom and kitchen. Bed was king size and very comfy, Hotel is 5 minutes from union square.

all over, good eating places around powell, mason and geary
Getting there
My advice is do not fly American Airways we had very bad experience. if you go shopping at Macys' go to the 6 th floor customer service and get a discount card 10% off everything

“got what we paid for”

We got what we paid for, a discounted hotel and a very average room. A couple of issues. the room was very hot at night and no way to cool it down other than propping the window open. bathroom was very small and there was some obvious signs of aging. We were fine with our 2 night stay but probably wouldn't go back. Service was good, friendly, and good location. Short walk to Union square.

“Great old-time comfort and surroundings”

The only negative is the emergency vehicle sirens, but after a full day of seeing, walking and climbing SF, one is so tired the sleep comes easily. Rooms were vey clean and comfortable.

Wharf, Alamo, Haight Ashbury - always interesting and different.

“Clean, basic and close to Union Square”

Good, old fashioned urban hotel near Union Square & just a few blocks uphill to Nob Hill. My room was acceptable with standard queen beds, small LCD TV with basic cable, a small writing desk and a few small chairs. The bathroom was nice with dual sinks, bidet and whirlpool tub/shower. There was also a small wet bar with mini fridge. Good value!

“Great old hotel.”

I have been staying at the Beresford Arms for 18 years and nothing has changed, not even the people at the desk. ...and that's great. Why change something that works so well. The Beresford is not showy but the rooms are big and most have kitchens. The neighborhood is colorful but safe and access to Union Square and transport is easy. Highly recommended for down to earth people.
