“There for you in a crisis”
I was in San Francisco and found myself stranded due to the Icelandic volcano eruption. This meant I had to extend my stay unexpectedly. The Baldwin Hotel were tremendous. They went out of their way to help me. I couldn't give them a firm date for checkout so they extended me for a week and offered that if I needed to check out earlier, there would be no charge for the canceled days. They were also most helpful with helping print boarding cards and so on. If you want a budget hotel that is going to put you first when you really need it, then this is the place for you. The hotel itself is well located. Just by the china town gateway. It's easy walking distance for the financial district. I was there for a conference held at the Palace Hotel and it's just a 10 min walk away. It is in a nice area of town that is safe to walk and close to main transit stops such as the BART (which takes you from SFO airport to town). It is a budget hotel, so don't expect air conditioning or a kettle in your room. But there is as much free coffee in reception as you want. The room was clean, well sized, serviced daily, with an ironing board, hair dryer, mini-safe, good bathroom, widescreen television with cable and wifi (though you do need to pay for the wifi but it wasn't expensive). Above all though, the staff are all great and helped me with everything I needed. I'll stay there again when I'm next in San Francisco.
“Baldwin Hotel - excellent for price”
Most comfortable bed of any hotel I've stayed in (including more expensive ones). Very clean (very important!). Very American. Quiet. Great central location - next to Union Sq; in easy reach of Market for transport; walking distance of ferries & pier. The room was just the right size for the two of us as we were out most of the time during the day and evenings. Hated the on-tap coffee (in the Foyer) to begin with but was addicted within days! Will stay here again.
“Excellent hotel in perfect city centre location”
Fantastic hotel, really could not fault it in anyway. Would recommend to friends and relatives and of course will definitely book any future trips through Expedia. For what you pay for, the location was really central, the staff were friendly and helpful, room was spacious and clean. What more could you want? I've seen past reviews about the hotel and the only complains about it was the noise outside - but come on, its a central location in a busy city, it's hardly the hotel's fault and out of their control! Definitely consider booking with them for your trip to San Francisco (which is worthwhile exploring).
“SAN FRACISCO MARCH/APRIL 2011”
WE HAD NEVER BEEN TO SAN FRANCISCO BEFORE ALTHOUGH WE HAVE BEEN TO THE USA ( FLORIDA ) THE CITY BY THE BAY AS IT IS KNOWN, I FOUND WAS ON THE WHOLE MORE EXPENSIVE AND A LOT DIFFERENT TO FLORIDA I THINK YOU GET A MUCH MORE CLEARER VIEW OF THE USA . SAN FRANCISCO IS A BIG AND VERY NOISEY CITY AND TO SEE THE POOR GOING THROUGH THE BINS TO EAT WHAT YOU OR I HAVE THROWN AWAY IS NOT A SIGHT THAT THE US TOURIST BOARD SHOW IN THE COME TO CALIFORNIA ADVERTS , BUT ON THE WHOLE WE DID ENJOY OUR STAY IN SAN FRANCISCO THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY IN MACYS IS A MUST AND IF YOU GET PAST THE SECOND COURSE YOUR A BETTER MAN THAN ME, AND ALCATRAZ IS A PLACE YOU CAN NOT MISS
“The Baldwin is highly recommended”
I stayed in the Baldwin Hotel last week. When booking, I expected a budget accomodation, but was very much pleasantly surprised about the quality of the room and in particular the service. Highly recommended not only because of price and location (very close to Union Square, good coffee shops, public transport and easy to walk from the underground BART station which has direct connection to the airport).
“Fantastic cheap hotel, ideal for yorkshire folk!”
Very close to union square and many many shops, also its located just at the bottom of the chinatown gate and a few steps from a starbucks. The rooms are big enough and very clean. I would difinately stay here again if im lucky enough to get back to frisco. Staff were friendly and sorted out a shuttle transfer to get us back to the airport.
“Nice hotel”
Very good location, friendly and helpful staff. Minor things to mention are: the lift clatters a bit at night (the hotel is very compact, 10 floors of rooms clustered round the lift), not much shelving in the bathroom for toiletries etc; no facilities for hot drinks in the room, but there is a machine in the lobby.
“For reasonable economy but ideal location”
The location is the main attraction but although an older type hotel they do look after you and it was comfortable. Only downside was the heating system which is a bit antiquated & we could not turn off/down the radiator - central system - either all on or all off. To compensate their was efficient air conditioning - which helped keep us cool for the little time we were in before going out.
“Great little place”
This hotel lived up to all expectations and was in a central location good for shopping, food and sightseeing.
“Comfortable stay in San Francisco”
Had a very pleasant 6 night stay at The Baldwin Hotel. Staff very helpful, room comfortable. Room was next to elevator - would suggest people request room away from it as it can be a bit noisy though we got used to it and slept soundly after the 1st couple of nights. Hotel very convenient to downtown attractions - a few minutes walk to Union Square or the BART. Also easy access to buses. Would definitely stay at Baldwin Hotel again
