“worst motel experience in decades”
Way over-priced. Blanket had multiple holes. No bath mat. Towels frayed at the edges. Only one light bulb out of four in the ceiling fan worked. Clock did not work. Old, noisy refrigerator. Beds very old. Squeeked loudly with any movement. Pillows terrible. Refrigerator contained moldy sandwich which stunk. Only one coffee mug in room with two beds. Two mismatched plastic drinking glasses with white stuff in them. Didn't use those so had to use wine glass - obviously a freebee from some place with name etched on it. Can't get to beach from inn. Houses built for blocks so can't even see the ocean!
“Very cute and clean.”
Our stay was great and the room was very beach themed cute and very clean. We only stayed one night but the kitchenette looked great and would have been handy if staying longer. The market next door had fruit, milk and breakfast cereal so very handy. Parking is what we had read, first come first served but we were lucky it was quiet and got one at our door. We went shopping at a few malls and outlets that weren't far since we had a car. Close to Legoland.
“Cute and quirky, not your average hotel”
I really liked staying at the Leucadia Beach Inn. Its appearance is different from your average hotel for the same price. Each room has a different color theme. We were in #7, the "calm room" with lots of soothing purple tones. Very nice staff and a very clean place. So nice to have a little kitchen in the unit. Bathroom was small with a very small mirror to get ready in but the shower was a nice size. No pool, but you are so close to the beach that you won't miss it. Although the place is close to the coast, the actual public entrances to the beach are a tad farther off. If you have a cooler and beach chairs it might be better to drive to a beach like Swami's or Moonlight. Only downside of the stay was that we couldn't get an ironing board for the first two days we were there. There was an iron available, but the board was checked out. The front desk guy was helpful and brought it to us when it was finally checked back in on our 3rd day there, but if you are going to need to iron while you stay there, be prepared to wait for the board!
“Clean and Comfortable”
This hotel was not fancy but clean and comfortable. I was traveling alone as a single female and felt safe by myself.
“Close to the Beach... But not too Comfy”
I read the reviews of this hotel before booking my room. What I gathered was it was clean and quaint. This is what I found... Upon first impression the exterior of the hotel looks much better than the others in the area. It is within a short drive to Legoland, which was nice. The room was tiny. The bathroom was tiny. The room seemed clean but was not comfy. It has a wall a/c unit and the room was very DAMP. Everything was damp. The kitchen was a nice bonus but you might want to bring dishsoap. The bed was not comfortible and the sheets were thin. I might recoment this to someone on a tight budget who wants to be close to the beach, but I think going forward I would pay a little extra, or go out a little further for a more comfortable hotel.
“Lovely and funky”
We enjoyed everything about the motel. Especially the fact that it is old, but totally renovated and super clean. Leucadia is an old fun beach town, and has lost none of its charm. Will we go back? Absolutely! Every chance we get!
“rude guy at check in desk”
I have traveled the world and have never been treated so poorly anywhere. The guy who checked us in kept yelling at my friend and I and acted in a very threatening manner. Funny thing was is that we were two moms traveling with two children. Not sure why he felt the need to bully around two women. The kids were scared and it was a very uncomfortable situation. Because it was a one man show, we couldn't ask for a manager or someone else to help us. The only reason we stayed after that is because it was late, we had already paid and the surrouding places were sold out. Too bad the service was so poor because it really was a cute place.
“Gem in Leucadia”
Great little motel. Very clean. Location was wonderful for Lego Land and the Animal Park which is where we wanted to go. It is not far from the beach either. The little grocery store one block away was perfect, picked up milk and fruit each day. It did not have internet, but there are nearby places to go to get connected. We would stay again, it was worth it!
“Cute, Quirky Little Inn”
I took my little daughter to Encinitas this July and based on the reviews decided to stay at the Leucadia Beach Inn. I've done some traveling for business so I've stayed at a wide range of hotels and motels over the years. This place isn't a luxury resort, and they don't charge like one either. But the room we were in was very clean, the paint was fresh, the furniture was in good condition, and the entire inn was well maintained. There was a mini-fridge large enough to hold groceries, a stovetop, sink and microwave so you could prepare your own meals, and a crazy-quilt collection of dishes, cookwear and cutlery. Just outside the door is the parking area along with benches, a table with an umbrella, lots of plants and a few fountains. It is cozy, but comfortable. Bottom Line: If you prefer cookie-cutter chain hotels then you might want to keep looking. But if you like a place where you can prepare meals in your room, that is relatively inexpensive, clean, slightly quirky and full of character along with the surrounding neighborhood, then you've found it!
“Clean, simple, and accessible.”
Small motel with large rooms. The two double bed room we stayed in had a kitchenette with a gas range in it and dishes and pans to use. It felt like a studio apartment. Very clean all over including the bathroom which was spotless. No internet or phone, but we were only staying one night anyway.
