“will go back!!”
We stayed here after taking the kids to legoland. We got the lake view and it was gorgeous. My kids really loved it and the rooms were nice. I would definately go back.
“Motel on a man-made lake”
"Resort" is not really accurate. It is a motel, minimal service, mediocre condition. It was convenient though, as we needed somewhere to stay in San Marcos. And the price was right.
“Potential”
As I understood the hotel was just under new management,,,The reception staff was always pleasant. My first room looked like it had not been prepared for a new visitor. The second room was clean, had a great view..but the television/internet connection and phone lines didn't work properly. My third room was clean but had a leak in the ceiling. I didn't want to change rooms again..so I put a waste basket to collect the drip. The maid did not make up the room the next day; but once I brought it to the attention of the staff they had the room cleaned. Not sure they have a handle on the cleaning and preparing of the rooms. One of the other guests told me that she found an earring in her bed that was not hers..so perhaps they need to pay more attention to cleaning details, I didn't mind the older condition of the place and the view of the lake was pleasant. The feeling that things weren't clean bothered me the most. The staff I dealt with, however, were always pleasant and tried to be accommodating. I hope the new management takes care of the facility...it could be a lovely place to stay.
“Nice & quiet, great location!”
Looking for a nice quiet place near Legoland? A quick ride down the road & very quiet! The lake view was nice too. We will stay here again, even if we're not going to Legoland. It's also a quick trip to Santee/San Diego! It's an older resort, still worth checking into.
“If the price is right”
Tilte says it all. If you are in the area & the rooms are cheap then stay here. Pros: The lake view was nice, but its only a view since the dock/lake are private. The surrounding neighborhood was very quite, i think more retired but not all. The people at the front had that uncomfortable weird vibe and did their job effectively, not anything above what they have to do. The room sizes were nice. They had one sink in the shower area and one outside, which was very convenient. Had new LCD TV's, with new high tech looking phone and the water pressure was awesome. Cons: For how vacant the rooms were I would expect more customer service and maybe a smile. I know the front desk gets bored but don't give me a look as if I'm interrupting your conversation with the other front desk agent when i approach. Rooms need a bad face lift, carpet was stained, bedding was old, entertainment cabinets were old beat up/ water damaged, missing light bulbs in lamps, blow dryer attached to wall was stained by age and looked nasty, coffee waker was dirty, towels were ripped/ stained, shower had a big hair ball which I had to remove for water to drain right, tub tiles needed some bleach to get rid or stains/mold, spider webs with bugs caught inside and outside the room, shower heads were 10" to low, and the restaurant is closed. Ill find a different place to stay for Lego Land next time, I thought it would be nice to stay at a "lake side resort", but its far from that. It could always be worse.....
“"That 70s show"”
Nice staff, quiet and peaceful area, but the place is soooo OLD! omg, the wallpaper, the old bathroom, just everything needs to be redone! We thought oooh, a golf resort! but it's not much of a resort and they're no longer associated with the golf courses near by! UGH!
“Very Comfortable”
The Hotel itself is a little dated but the beds are comfortable the lake is nice and quiet except for a few rogue ducks nearby, if you want a nice quiet room friendly staff yummy coffee and no traffic this is the place to stay--- pay the xtra $15 here vs. the Ramada, worth every penny
“Hidden Gem”
We (Family of 5) stayed here for 6 nights from 6th Oct 2011. Having last stayed here three years back we expected it to be reasonable but were concerned by the awful reviews on Trip Advisor after we'd booked. We chose two Lake View Rooms with a connecting door on the ground floor. The setting and the grounds of the hotel are superb with lovely views of the lake and surrounding countryside from the room. The complex has two swimming pools and a whirl pool bath which were clean and unoccupied for the entirety of our stay, meaning that we had them all to ourselves. Parking is free of charge and there were plenty of spaces. The hotel staff were polite and extremely helpful and sorted out any issues we had. To our surprise, breakfast was provided free of charge, consisting of a self serve selection of tea, coffee and juices, cereal, toasted bagels, buns, yogurt and muesli bars. This saved us around $35 per day not having to eat breakfast out. The place has been under new ownership since May 2011 and it was clear during our stay that they were in the process of injecting some well needed cash into the complex. The rooms are dated, but are clean and comfortable, but there are areas that would benefit from a fresh coat of paint. It is clean comfortable and a pleasant place to stay and I would recommend it to others and would definitely stay here again.
“Former San Marcos Resident”
This was the second time my husband and I stayed at Lake San Marcos. We use to live in the area and have always loved being around the lake. The hotel is old, but is currently going through renovations. When it's an older hotel there will be issues, but for one night with a Lake View under $$$ in San Diego..it is worth some old blinds and carpet.. Looking forward to the upgrades and hope to be back only suggestion is the breakfast.. not so good...
“needs updating”
needs updating, dirty sheets, weird noises from other rooms, beautiful view, good price
