“Not Impressed”

Very disappointed hotel staff were very helpful but we had not been told of the refurbishment and although we werer given a another room I do not think the management cared that we were not happy with what we were offered - not good value would definately not reccommend this hotel

“under repair and renovation and expedia said NOTHING”

Old, classic beach side hotel with great view. But the decor and rooms are tired old - mine was bit musty. Which probably explains why they are doing a complete renovation. I was looking forward to this stay but for that cost it was not worth it. Expedia did not mention the construction either.

“Picture perfect!”

We stayed for a special occasion and the hotel staff could not have been nicer. The room was fabulous with a view of the pacific. They even made sure we had a table on the terrace at the new Eddie V's for dinner. We couldn't have asked for more.

Area recommendations

The Pacific Ocean walk is great. Also, a visit to the San Diego Zoo is a must.

Just walking the shore is beautiful.

“A nice stay in La Jolla”

A very nice hotel. Located around some of the finest shops and businesses. And, just a hop, skip and jump away from the beach cove. A perfect place to watch the harbor seals. And, the restaurant offered good food. Except, their breakfast menu was a little limited. Over all, it was a great hotel for price. And, it would be a great romantic weekend getaway.

Area recommendations

Central/Downtown area. Wonderful restaurants, shops, galleries and other unique sights to see.

“Back to LJ”

The hotel is truly beautiful situated in one of the magical locations not only in US but also the world. Things that need improvement: - somewhat surly and overly detached front desk personnel - beds need serious refurbishment

“A lovely hotel - would definitely return again!”

La Valencia is a very pretty hotel and the rooms are very comfortable. The food is very good as is the hotel's service personnel although they forgot to give us the paper each day we were there and the flyer for the activities and weather for each day except for the very last night we were there! Also, the cost of parking your car there is too high -- we hardly used the car at all so if you don't really need a car take a cab to the hotel. Otherwise, we had a lovely time in La Jolla!

“Noisiest hotel ever”

Lovely old heritage hotel in the heart of La Jolla. Went looking for much needed rest and relaxation. The hotel had entertainment/music everynight in their courtyard and it was unbearably noisy in the rooms...we moved twice but with little relief from the noise. On the bright side, the hotel service, particularly the restaurant/bar staff were excellent and the hotel was in a lovely situation to walk out to restaurants and the village. Not a place to go though if you are looking for quiet evenings with a glass of wine and the company of your partner. This was an expensive hotel for what we received except for the location, which was great. The weather in February when last in the area was much warmer and sunnier than the second week in July...bit disappointing.

Area recommendations

All of it, the coast line with abundant wildlife and great walking trails, also swimming and biking if so inclined. Great restaurants within walking distance.

“Honeymoon! Yes!”

We went to La Valencia for our honeymoon. I think that La Jolla is the best place for Honeymon in California.. This Hotel is really "historical". You understand this when you see the elevator. :) Beautiful ocean view and quiet..
