“Would certainly use again if returned to San Diego”
This hotel looks nothing from the outside but the rooms are very clean, comfortable and well equiped. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the location is ideal for seeing the Gaslamp Quarter and the shopping mall. Also close to the port and Seaport Village.
“Excellent”
Great hotel in a very convenient location.
“Good hotel”
Friendly staff, reasonable prices, free internet, central location (but not right in gaslamp so not too noisy). Only detraction is slightly noisy from coach station and lots of tramps in the area. These really were minor - as I say, the hotel itself was good. Also note if you stay in the grand hotels of San DIego you will pay a lot for internet access.
“Great location and great hotel”
We stayed at the Bristol Hotel for 3 nights and they only complaint we had is that the lift (elevator) is extremely slow! The hotel is 5 mins walk to the Gaslamp Quarter and the Horton Plaza - great shopping. We could even walk to Petco Park and Seaport Village (though we used the trolley service for this). The room was decorated in a lovely black & red art deco style and the bed was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom was small compared to the room but no complaints. Our room overlooked the rear of the hotel so no view but no street noise either. The valet parking worked well and we didn't see our car from the time we parked to the time we left. We thought $22 worth the convenience. Our room had a good shower and a decent hairdryer.
“Clean and comfortable”
Friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds, well located. Would definitely go back!
“Great, understated hotel”
It's not the glitziest, but the Bristol was a great hotel to stay in (for seven nights). Our room was spacious, exceptionally well kept and very comfortable. The hotel is quite low-key, with not too much action in the lobby area, but as there is so much in the surrounding area, that doesn't matter- it just keeps it quiet. The location is good- easy to walk to anywhere downtown (as long as you're not lazy), although you wouldn't want to be much further north or west (like the W). The complaint about noise- we had a street-facing room and couldn't hear the greyhounds. We could hear the trolleys in the morning, though- but it didn't really bother me. There were good black-out curtains, too, so sleeping was easy. Only gripe? A poor breakfast, I thought. But not awful. Definitely recommended as a great value, comfortable, downtown hotel.
“Very impressed and comfortable.”
This hotel got full marks an almost everything from us. We can't comment on the food as we chose to eat elsewhere, however staff and room and convenience of location were all first class. I suppose we should have expected that with such a convenient city centre location, we'd have had to pay for valet parking at the hotel, but the $26 per day charge was unexpected and did have its impact on us. Aside from that, the only negative comment was that there traffic noise (though minimal) could be heard in our room and, in this class of hotel it surprised us. However, we thouroughly enjoyed our stay and, if we were ever to be back in San Diego, we would want to return to The Bristol. Our rating would be 4.5 out of 5.
“Great hotel, great location”
Hotel is located right in the gaslamp district - perfect for exploring the city!
“Had a great stay here”
The Bristol hotel is in an excellent location for shopping, dining and entertainment. Olnly a 10$ taxi ride from the airport. The staff were excellent, and very friendly, form the front desk, to the vallet service. There is free internet access as well as a computer for use by hotel residents. Using Expedia gave very good value here. Only complaint is the stay was too short!!!
“Good value contempory, comfortable hotel”
First impressions from the outside are very disappointing (drab and dated) but inside is a completely different story - stylishly contemporary and reflects the photos on the website. Clearly this is an old hotel which has had a very good refurbishment inside. Staff are pleasantly friendly but not intrusive. Food is decent - not outstanding but perfectly fine if you don't want to go out searching for a restaurant elsewhere. My only really negative comment is that it is opposite the bus station and the buses get going in the early hours of the morning (but this would only be a problem for light sleepers), and on the corner of the tram. However, given it is away from the noisy bars and and restaurants of the gaslight area (which is close by) this hotel is no doubt considerably quieter than more central hotels. It is a 10 (or so) minute walk to the San Diego Convention Center, as well being in the same street (1st Ave) as the excellent Ralph's supermarket and Horton Plaza.
