“Pleasantly surprised.”
Having never been to San Antonio and unfamiliar with any hotels there, we were pleasantly surprised at how nice the Hotel Contessa turned out to be. We had booked it thru a flight/package deal and it far exceeded our expectations...great service and beautiful atmosphere!
“Good location; great service.”
Comfortable rooms and helpful people. Can't go wrong here.
“Lacks quality control”
The Bad: Beautiful hotel, but the room was freezing cold when we arrived. Also went to grab a drink from the mini-bar and it was empty. Called down to the front desk for some extra blankets, was told they were in the closet, which they were not. Informed them the mini-bar was empty and they restocked it, but the fridge itself was broken so nothing was cold. The heat in the room did not work, but it warmed up after we turned the whole system off, probably from the adjoining rooms' ambient heat. It was late when we returned from the Riverwalk, we ordered room service. Don't bother, it is not worth the wait. The burger was a frozen patty that they grilled which was shaped like a salisbury steak and tasted like one, they forgot the cheese on the "Adult" grilled cheese..., and used spaghetti noodles to whip up some Chicken Noodle soup since they ran out. The Good: Awesome location very near the River Center Mall, short walk from most of the restaurants and the Amphitheater. The breakfast buffet was quite good, with a nice selection as well as a waffle and omelet station. All the employees were extremely polite and helpful. If we had been staying longer than a night, we would have changed rooms, but it was ok for the single night since we were not in it aside from sleep. The management needs better quality assurance to make sure that rooms are ready and fully functional.
“Satisfactory”
Hotel Contessa is a nice hotel in a convenient location. The staff are friendly and professional. I did not think the front desk staff were knowledegable about the safey issue of walking around the Riverwalk alone at night. I do not recommend doing this by yourself - there is construction, and there are dark areas that are somewhat deserted at night. Other than that, all other minor issues were handled in a professional timely manner. The bartender was great! Very friendly, and welcoming. The portion size of the food for the price, however, was a bit small.
“Perfect Getaway”
I LOVE the Hotel Contessa. This was the second time I stayed there and it was as wonderful as the first. The hotel is located on the San Antonio Riverwalk but on the edge so you are not right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. But everything is still in walking distance either on the riverwalk or on the street. The concierge and valets were very helpful. The hotel is clean, clean, clean. I will definately stay here again on my next trip back to San Antonio.
“Your not getting what you pay for”
We were on the tenth floor. Stayed two nights during the lighting of the river lights. Noise from the other guest at the hotel came through the walls and under the door. The carpet was dirty in our room.A mixed drink at the bar is over eight dollars. Location of this hotel is a plus if your going to the Alamo.
“Riverwalk Jewel”
We chose this hotel because it is on the quieter end of the Riverwalk away from the some of the Bourbon Street type establishments further down. The suite was extremely comfortable, the staff very helpful and the food and drink selection in the Spanish style restaurant and bar were top notch. Don't miss the half-price tapas and drinks during happy hour! We also enjoyed massages at the spa, and a workout in the rooftop gym and pool. We look forward to visiting the Hotel Contessa again!
“Nice Hotel but a little over priced”
The hotel was nice but a little over-priced. The service was okay but not great. The hotel restaurant was very nice and the hotel is located right on the river walk.
“Very Nice”
This hotel is very nice, directly on the river walk with very nice suites and affordable price (through Expedia of cource). It was a busy day when we arrived so it took us over 45 minutes between checking in and getting the rooms, not that bad but annoying considering we had a long road trip and wanted to shower before checking the places around. The hotel is in the middle of downtown so everything is close by and you can walk to few interesting places around. The "expensive" galaries are behind the hotel across the river. Checking out was fast but again took us 40 minutes to get the car back from the valet parking, I was the only one though, they thought I did not pay! Anyways, despite the two very annoying incidents, the hotel itself was very pleasant and I would go back again. Very recommended.
“Will stay again”
Hotel, staff, location all great!
