“Grand Hyatt, San Antonio, Texas”
We enjoyed staying at the Grand Hyatt. The building is new and our room was on the 12th floor. Check in and check out was very easy and we got a room with the view of downtown area. The room it self was clean with very comfortable bed and a nice sized flat screen tv. The best part about this hotel is that it is conveniently located in the downtown area, adjacent to river walk and also in front of the Hemisphere park & Tower of America. Also it is within walking distance from the Alamo and River walk mall. The cons of this place is the parking, which was kind of expensive. Initially we had read on the site that self parking will be $19/day, but at check in we were told it would be $25, so I asked for cheaper parking lots in the area and the hotel staff mentioned the parking lot immediately across from Hyatt, which cost only $9/day (it is good if you keep the car inside.) One day I was able to find parking on the street and another option was to use the parking lot one block over that has a flat rate fee of $2.50 until 12 AM. If you are flying in and want to stay in downtown area, there is no need for a car because most of the places are within walking distance, also for those that are further away, public transportation including bus and trolley are readily available. Overall, the hotel stay was good.
Area recommendations
Downtown San Antonio is good: We enjoyed the river boat cruise, river walk, mall, dinner by river walk, alamo, hemisphere park & tower of americas, and missions.
The botanical garden requires a short drive and so does the four missions, but they were also enjoyable. If you like stuffed animals and enjoy learning some history about texas rangers, the buck horn museum is a good place to stop. Although we did not eat at the Saloon, it seemed like a good place to hang out for a while.
When to go
Thanks giving and Christmas will be a good time to go because the trees on the river bank are all lit up and very pretty in the evening time. Also there is a river parade and lighting of the Christmas tree at Alamo on November 25th, every year so that is a fun time to visit.
