“Would definitely stay there again”

After an initial blip which put us in a double bed (we are close friends but not that close !) the staff were very helfpul, co-operative and friendly. The location was convenient but quiet, and the breakfast was superb ! Try and visit the roofgarden and sauna area - a hidden treasure.

Area recommendations
I fell in love with Salzburg. Compact and fascinating - and the locals have a great sense of humour ! Don't go if you don'tlike Mozart though...
Must see
Don't miss the Cathedral, the Fortress, the Salzburg Museum, the Mozart house, and if you get chance visit the Nonnberg Abbey. It's still a working convent so treat it with respect, but we were lucky enough to hear the nuns sing mass - magical. The hop on hop off bus service is good but the local buses are good too. A trip to the Eagle's Nest and Bertesgarten was fascinating, and you really can't miss the Sound of Music Tour - be prepared to sing to get the most out of it !

“Comfort and value for money”

The Hotel & Villa Auersperg is a most comfortable and well equiped hotel. The service was very good and the breakfast would suit the fussiest of eaters with an excellent range to choose from. When we advised that we needed to check out early in the morning to catch a train an excellent packed breakfast was prepared for us. The location is good being about a 5-10 min walk from the main street. We would be hard pressed to find fault. Good value.

Area recommendations
The old town is excellent not only for the architecture but the many restaurants and the many quality shops.
Must see
The fortress offers great views and some interesting historical artefacts.Enjoy a coffee whilst taking in the vista.
Events and shows
The Mozart Dinner/concert at St Peters was most enjoyable for both food and entertainment.
Other
Take the mountains and lakes 1/2 day tour for some great scenery and quaint villages.

“Nice Hotel on the fringes”

First, I must say that the hotel was nice. Other reviewers had praised the breakfast offered, and I confirm that praise. It was a European breakfast, with a nice selection of meats, cheeses, breads, grains, beverages and fruits, in a bright room, with plenty of windows. The staff was pleasant, and helpful. If your German is a bit rusty, worry not; all of the wait staff had a very reasonable command of English. My room was on the third floor, second floor by European naming conventions, and there was a tiny elevator. It was small, and spare, and looked like it had been decorated in Ikea showrooms. My room was at a corner of the hotel, near the intersection on which the hotel stands. There was considerable vehicle traffic, which was audible. Away from this corner of the building may not have been a problem, but I don't know. The hotel was an easy walk to the older, historic districts of Salzburg, and I didn't feel any danger, but some of the surrounding neighborhoods were not so nice as the hotel. The bus stops 2 blocks away, but once you figure out the StadtBus, its a great mode of transportation. MirabellPlatz was a 5 block walk, the old city about a 7 block walk. I spent 8 days, and except for the weekend when the hotel was very busy, I was comfortable. Soundproofing in the hotel was poor; anything that happened in the adjoining room's bathroom sounded like it happened in my bed. There were no amenities like microwave, fridge, etc. not justifying the rate..

Area recommendations
There are a lot of hotels in and near the old City. If your visit is for tourism in the old city, stay in the old city. You will do most of your transport by foot. Staying at the Villa Auersburg required a significant walk to go back out for dinner, or lunch. The Hotels facing the river seemed quite nice, and quite convenient, and probably not a lot more noise. I went for the music, and all the concerts I chose to attend were in the old city. Staying in the old city would have been more convenient.
When to go
I went in late October into early November. It was cool, and breezy, but very pretty. However, a great many of the sites were starting their maintenance cycle, and lots of shrouded scaffolding was present, which reduced some of the views, particularly of the 40+ ancient churches in the city. I think either September or late November would have been better for me. It was clear that the City was decorating for its Christmas season, and from what I saw, it will be quite pretty. I didn't detect any airconditioning in my hotel, but its thick walls may make that unnecessary. I think other times of the year that may include a lot of heat, or icy conditions would be difficult to enjoy.
What to pack
Bring everything you will need. Although the Hotel has laundry services, it would be cheaper to go out and buy replacements than to have them laundered. If you do buy, don't buy common household goods in the old city; get on a bus, and go out into the new city, and do your shopping there.
Events and shows
Go to the concerts. A couple can be booked via Expedia, but there are a whole lot more that you can attend just by walking up. They are conducted in Museums, church facilities, historic facilities, etc. These are not plush downtown opera hall settings; they are recital rooms for presenting the music. I particularly enjoyed the FestungKonzert. The room was spare, but the musicians extraordinary. Access can be tough; you must ride the funicular railroad to the fortress, then climb several stairways to the very top of the fortress. Arrive early.

“Very comfortable, well located hotel”

I chose this hotel because of previous reviews I had read and was very pleased with it. We had two rooms in the hotel, one overlooking the road at the front, and one overlooking the garden. Both rooms were clean and tidy when we arrived, the temperatures were very high and although there was no aircon, floor fans had been provided, which really helped. The double glazing and shutters worked well at keeping the noise to a minimum at night. Wifi worked everywhere in the hotel. Breakfast in the hotel was great, good choice and helpful staff if you wanted anything extra. All the staff were very helpful, the hotel is well positioned, about a 5-10 minute walk into town, there are plenty of great restaurants nearby - I couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough.

“Comfortable Hotel”

Hotel & Villa Auersperg is a 5 minute taxi ride from the Hauptbahnhof and a 10 minute walk to Salzburg Old Town. The hotel staff were very accommodating for an early check-in and secured out luggage so we could get busy sightseeing. When we returned, our luggage had been delivered to out room, and ready for us to relax. The room and amenities are what we expected from having traveled extensively throughout Europe and not choosing to stay at the big chain hotels. The included breakfast was perfect for any taste and offered something for everyone. The only downside is the distance to the main sights, which on a rainy day was challenging.

“Excellent hotel.”

The hotel was a haven of peace and tranquility and the staff attentive to every detail. The restaurant was very good and breakfast could be taken inside or out in the garden area. The sundeck terrace was a surprise and a great place to relax. Will return to this hotel.

“wonderful hotel outside salzburg altstadt”

Really nice stay in hotel, very clean, staff incredibly helpful and professional, breakfast was excellent. Steam room and sauna with open top terrace as well as a lovely garden. Created a lovely ambience in evening with candles in the gardens, in the hotels and nice bar/eating area thats open until 1am. Hotel is not in altstadt but 10 minute walk but very glad to have been located where we were. However, practically next door to Die Weisse "the best brewery and beergarden in town", and a few other restaurants nearby. train station is about 10 minute walk as is mirabel gardens. One of the nicest stays i have had. Only thing is no air conditioning in room but i dont like air con and rather have fans which they provided, and the windows open.

“Outstanding experience”

Among our many hotel stays over the past six months, Hotel and Villa Auersperg was extremely nice. We picked this one after the many positive reviews. We agree with the other comments about the staff and breakfast--both were outstanding. We especially like the Nespresso machine in the room and also did not know this was an additional charge. However, it was not very surprising. Even 1.50 is less than you pay for a coffee anywhere else and this is Nespresso. We also went to the local Nespresso store and bought our own capsules since we have a machine at home. Not surprisingly this hotel does not have AC but this is very typical for the region. We would prefer AC but the experience here was outstanding. We will definitely stay there on our next trip to Salzburg.

“Excellent boutique hotel”

Everything about this hotel impressed us - the efficiency of the front desk staff, the sumptuous breakfast, the stylish decor made this hotel one of our favorites. Honestly, the breakfast is amazing! We also loved our balcony overlooking the street as well as the pretty little garden in the back.

“Very comfortable stay. Quiet, room, comfortable beds. LOVE the decor and the location -”

Our travel was for business, so a good night's sleep was a MUST. We would definitely return to this hotel. Comfortable beds, soft pillows, with chocolates on the pillows each day, and apples in bowls in hallways and lobby. The morning breakfast buffet is included and is wonderful. Everything from eggs and bacon to pastries, breads, meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, yogurts, special oatmeals, fresh juices, and cereals. A fantastic way to start the day and personally served with a smile from the staff. Since ours was a business trip, early breakfast was a must, and having the buffet in the hotel was so convenient. The location is perfect for a short walk to several terrific restaurants and bars for evening fun. Older downtown area is only a few blocks away with plenty of shopping, including a grocery store. Everything is walking distance including jewelry stores, pizza places, gelato and candy shops, Italian restaurants, banks, museum, local vendors, beautiful gardens, cathedrals and even horse drawn carriage rides. On a final note, we recommend this hotel for it's sauna and spa. The healing massage was fabulously relaxing!!!
