“Good Value”

The hotel is in a great location, the restaurant is pricey but fantastic and if you need to exchange cash their exchange rate is actually the going rate (not the typical 10+ % higher like most hotels).

“Loved the hotel”

A very good choice. The only disappointing thing was the small bar for watching the 2010 World Cup. It was hot and stuffy in the bar.

“Very Impressed”

My wife and I had a 4 night stay at this hotel and were extremely pleased with every aspect. Friendly reception, clean and very spacious room with temperature controlled radiatiors, comfortable king size bed, minibar, TV with English news channels, good size bathroom with shower etc. The "swimming" pool is tiny (Ive been to hotels with bigger Jacuzzis) but is ok for a dip. The sauna and steam rooms are excellent and the gym is very small but functional. The bier keller down stairs sells good food at reasonable prices and it is possible have meals there most of the day and evening. Resaraunt upstairs is a little expensive so we didn't eat there although we had breakfast one morning and were pleased with what was on offer. I have given top marks for everything except the location but to be fair that is a littly petty as although the hotel is at the most northern part of the town we only had to take a 5 minute walk to the nearest bars and restaraunts. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the Old Town across the river and that is where most of the "action" is. We will be returning to Salzburg and if the hotel prices don't increase TOO much in the Summer we will stay at the Crown Plaza again.

When to go
We went at the beginning of January and it was very cold as expected. Pack your warmest clothes and good boots/walking shoes. We were one week too early because we following week was Mozart Week with lots of music and free shows (so we were told.) We have also been told that July and August is extremely busy as Mozart is a prominant subject at that time.
Getting there
Just a note to say that we flew with Lufthansa from Manchester-Frankfurt-Salzburg and same on the return trip. The aircraft is probably the best I have travelled on in over 30 years! Comfortable leather seats with lots of leg room and complimentary food and drink including free beer! (Wasn't expecting THAT!) We didn't use public transport in the town except for the taxi to and from the airport.
Must see
Go on the Panarama Sound of Music Tour. Even if you are not a fan of the film it is still worth going as the tour guide also points out all the "sights" of the town and gives a breif history lesson. Peter was an excellent tour guide and gave us a very enjoyable 4 hours. This is an excellent tour if you want to see some of the surrounding countryside and towns as well. We got to see 5 lakes and 3 towns, one of which we stopped off at and had time for lunch and a walk round. highly recommended. Also go to the very well preserved "fort" that overlooks the town. Its a bit of a walk up to it but well worth the effort (there is also a lift for the less energetic.) When you get up there don't be put off by the 10 Euro entrance fee. Pay it and enjoy a wonderful few hours!

“Best in Salburg!”

I have traveled to Austria and Salburg for nearly 50 years, The Pitter was by far the best hotel I have ever stayed in over the years. It is neat, clean, friendly, good service and the restaurants in the hotel were exceptional! The rooms are well furnished and bigger than most European hotels. It is now my hotel of choice in Salzburg which has so many great hotels.

There rae no areas in Salburg that are undesirable!

“Great hotel with relaxing pool 10 minutes walk from train station and 10 minutes walk to old town”

Great comfortable hotel. Easy to find and very close to old town. No. 2 Bus is outside to go to airport and takes about 25mins. Nice relaxing pool and sauna. Very clean rooms and big beds with airconditioning. Will definately stay again.

Traveller's tip
No need to catch taxi to airport. Save a few bucks (20 euro) by jumping on the No. 2 bus which is 2 minutes down the road that goes straight to an airport stop. Walk an extra few minutes and your in the terminal.

“Excellent location”

I thought this hotel was brilliant for the amount we paid. It was well located for walking to sights and for buses, train station etc. Rooms very spacious and comfortable beds. Also well insulated from traffic noise with good double glazing. We didn't have breakfast there as at 15euros felt this was too pricey so we stocked up on breakfast things from supermarket and had in our spacious room. Also plenty of cafes etc around. The posh restaurant in the hotel was pricey, but the beer kellar/pitter garden did excellent food at good prices and very congenial. Would highly recommend for its comfort and location and ease of getting to & from airport by no.2 bus which stops round corner.

Traveller's tip
Get the salzburg card which gives you free bus travel in city and free entrance to most attractions. We as family of 4 we saved a fortune getting this.

“Not impressed”

Hotel air conditioner was very hot - 27c, wouldn't fix for days and then finally on asking several times informed us that the motor was broken and couldnt be fixed. Had to insist (not offered) on moving rooms, the choice was a definite downgrade smoking, ground level or much smaller.
