“Great views from our room and located next to the train station”

The room was spacious for the three of us. Although the hotel was across from the main train station, we rarely noticed any noise. The neighborhood is not bad however there was an erotic store/club of some sort on one of the streets bordering the hotel. We did not however feel in any way threatened while walking around the neighborhood. We did purchase the Salzburg card while there as much for the discounts or free admission as for its use on public transportation. The public transportation came in handy when the weather was a little colder or we wanted to go somewhere a little farther away than where we wanted to walk. The hotel, and actually most of Salzburg itself, is within a fairly compact area. Easy to walk around.

Area recommendations
The old town on both sides of the river. Very compact and easily accessible for walking. Lots of interesting lanes, passageways and shops. Lots of churches with spectacular insides.
When to go
We were there right after Christmas. Lots of Christmas gift shoppes and the market was still open. However, there isn't a whole lot of daylight ... gets dark around 3:30pm. But, the lights are pretty. We liked Salzburg a lot however, we think we'll visit again in the Summer. There will definitely be more daylight, the Mirabelle Gardens will be in bloom, and the weather will not be as big a factor as to what we can see and do.
Getting around
The Salzburg card was useful as it gave us the public transportation option and got us into some attractions such as the Festung Hohensalzburg "free". Easy and safe to walk around the city at night.
Must see
The Festung Hohensalzburg was very interesting although the queue was long to go through the castle with an English audio-file guide. The Augustinerbrau (brewery and beer hall) was a great way to experience a beer hall and join in with the locals.
Dining
Many and varied places to dine anywhere in the city. We found a small coffee and sweets place and stopped there several times.
