"GREAT hotel in one of Madrid's BEST neighborhoods"
I travel to Madrid frequently and always love to stay at this hotel ... It's location is amazing. Right in the heart of the Salamanca District with easy access to transportation (cabs and metro), restaurants (from full restaurants to tapas places), coffee shops (at least three, in a two-block radius), boutiques (clothing/shoes/beauty/jewelry/perfume) and pastry shops (as a matter of fact, there is one across the street). Not to mention its proximity to banks, museums and the country’s leading retailer. However, the thing I love the most about this hotel is the people that work there. They will go above and beyond just to make you feel right at home ...
Welcoming staff, always eager to please (I left my phone in a cab, and the receptionist immediately called the phone and got the driver to return it). Comfortable room, and excellent restaurant food - the Goizeko basque restaurant in particular.
Many of the attractions of Madrid are within walking distance or a short cab ride.
The only disappointment was that the pool doesn't open until June - we were there mid May at 26C and a swim would have been nice.
Amazing - staff so nice, had room with balcony worth the extra cost, bed and linen luxury, not a better location to be found - would be even better if there were coffee making facilities in room - do need my coffee fix in the morning.
We enjoyed the hotel very much and the staff was most helpful. Just know that it is in a very busy area of Madrid, so you won't be opening the windows to sleep. Definitely an old style European hotel, but just what we like.
North of the Retiro, Salamanca has always been an affluent neighbourhood. Its grid-like streets and beautiful houses sprang up at the end of the 19th century, escaping from the old city walls. Today, ladies who lunch drop into its spas and designer shops, many of which line the long, sleek Calle Serrano. The National Library and the Museum of Archaeology are close to the Plaza de Colón.
