When we booked the Hotel City House, we thought that we'd probably made a good choice, however the Hotel far exceeded all our expectations. Our friends and ourselves had lower ground floor rooms, which might not have appealed to everyone, but the rooms were enormous and extremely comfortable. We liked the little touches - honesty bar in the Lounge, computer and free internet access and printer, softer than soft bed linen, feather pillows, almost cost price mini bar - we could go on. The whole ambience of the Hotel was charming, elegant and welcoming - and all in a very convenient location.
We absolutely loved the glamour and posh experience that the Kempinski offers. As students, we felt a little out of place compared to the Old Money guests that frequent these types of hotels. We spent a lot of time in the lounge downstairs, ordering coffees and 9 euro shots. The Waiter was extremely friendly and personable, as was most of the staff! They offer many amenities; pool, bar, breakfast, but most of these you will end up paying for. Do not expect to just pay for the hotel room! For students, if you want to have the royal treatment and blow your money on a luxurious hotel that offers extremely plushy King size beds and views of the Alster Lake, this is the hotel for you!
You can walk to the hotel in 5 minutes from the main train station. The single room is very small. It is not an issue for me, because I did not stay at the room most of the time. It is clean and the break first is very good.
Very comfortable room; spacious, quiet and the front desk-staff were great. Close to public transport and it is an easy walk to shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and tourist attractions. There is a self-service laundrette nearby too. Highly recommended and I would certainly stay here again.
St Georg is situated between the main train station and the Alster Lake. It is home to beautiful old streets, as well as derelict alleys. Cheap tenements stand alongside five-star hotels including the historic Kempinski Atlantic, while Lange Reihe is lined with quality restaurants and boutique shops. Near the station are the Deutsche Schauspielhaus where actors perform and the Arts and Crafts Museum
