We arrived in Marseille by train and found the location of the hotel very convenient. Arriving early in the day we stored our luggage securely on site, the staff were very helpful. Checking in was quite smooth, the staff were very efficient and informative. We found the room very clean and presentable, very spacious, and kitchenette fitted out with dishwasher, microwave, fridge, plates, utensils, and tea and coffee making facilities.
The hotel was modern and updated; gives you lots of options if you want to cook at home, or eat out. The fridge was large, fully functional kitchen for long stays. The fridge even has a wine rack if you want to stay in.
Great location as well.

This was my second stay here, which was better than the first. All reception staff spoke English and were very friendly and helpful. My room was on the street side, with a balcony, but I heard no street noise due to the double pane glass. The bed was super comfy, with extra pillows. The bathroom was large, with lots of towels and toiletries. Complimentary bottled water was also provided. Breakfast offered a variety of foods; breads, cheese, ham, cereals, jams, croissants, yogurts, fresh fruit, juices, coffee and tea. Great that the service continued to noon for the late sleepers, like me. There is a rental bicycle rack in front of the hotel for those who are willing to pedal the hilly streets. Tons of restaurants nearby, from cheap eats to high end. There is a new supermarket, U Express, as you take a right out of the hotel door and walk a short distance. It offers ready made food, fresh fruits, alcohol and anything else you may need.
I stayed here because I needed to drop a rental car off at the station and then get up at 4AM to get to a flight out from Marseille. The neighborhood, as is usual around urban train stations, is not terrific, but the hotel is very nice - good soundproofing, lots of great amenities, large rooms by European standards, efficient and helpful staff. They even had coffee and croissants ready for me at 4AM down in the lobby.
As expected. Very similar and consistent hotel as with others in the chain. It is basic but clean and accessible. Excellent location 'on top of the station' St Charles. Makes a great stay if you need to get an early morning train or bus to the airport. Also easy to get to decent quick food outlets in the station. Staff speak both English and French. The only down side was that our shower tray was broken at the bottom. We were only staying the night so not a problem also the room wasn't ready till 12.30 when it was quoted as 12 and the dirty drinks and food from previous occupants was left outside our room all day. Only a ten minute walk down a main road to the Old Port.
"Quaint hotel - easy to get to and right by port!"
We LOVED this hotel! Staff was very friendly and helped us throughout our stay. We had the cutest room with a very large bathroom and great shower! 5 minute walk to Vieux Port which was very convenient and a 10 Euro cab ride to train station. All in all very great stay and would recommend to anyone!

We were very happy with our stay at Hotel Ryad in Marseille. That said, I should clarify that we asked to change our first room which was quite austere and required mounting 80 steps ( no elevator) to a more expensive but very pleasant and quiet room in back. The staff was most obliging. Although others have criticized the neighborhood and there were prostitutes in the street outside, we did not feel at all threatened and enjoyed the "Marseille" atmosphere. We did not take the breakfast because it seems expensive and we found a wonderful cafe nearby.
