The staff here is incredible. They have been on top of everything and extremely helpful. The rooms are nice, includes a standing oil filled radiator for heat, comfortable beds, my only complaint, really, is that the floor is hard wood and COLD.
The wifi works fairly well (some days not so good, but that probably depends on who's using it), and the lounge areas (Zona de Wifi) are nicely maintained and comfortable.
Breakfast is basic and good - eggs, potatoes, juice, cereal, bread, cheese, ham, fruit, etc.
The hotel is located about 10-15 minutes above the main square. It takes some getting used to walking uphill at this elevation for this sea level girl, but definitely doable, just take it slow!
We stayed at El Balcon for 1 night before going on a 5 day trek to Macchu Pichu. The room was spacious and the beds comfortable. We had to get up very early the next morning and breakfast was made ready for us. Staff were very accommodating in allowing us to leave our heavy rucksacks in the luggage store until our return. We then spent a second night at El Balcon and this time we had a first floor room which was even nicer than the ground floor room we had before. We were able to pay by credit card which was an added bonus. We then set off for Puno and the Colca Canyon to return to Cusco 4 days later. Wanting to spend a day exploring Cusco before our flight home we were delighted to be able to leave our rucksacks at El Balcon again, returning later in the day to get a taxi to the airport. We cannot recommend the service we received highly enough.
