Barnsdale Lodge - what a treat!

Posted 06-Nov-2014
Pros: Confort, helpfulness of staff, location
Cons: Can't think of any improvements necessary
Location: Bird Watching, Rutland Water
My husband and I stopped off here for one night midweek, mainly to visit the nearby Bird Reserve, and had a delightful stay. The room was comfortable and beautifully furnished; the dining room had a lovely ambience and the food was first class. We will certainly look at Barnsdale Lodge again when travelling that way in the future.

First Class comfort

Posted 22-Oct-2014
Pros: Everything !
Cons: A desk chair in my room as I did some work at the table. Dressing gown as I used room service.
Location: Handy to main road route. Rutland Water to get some freshair after a long drive. Barnsdale Gardens, some half mile away.
Had been travelling for over 5 hours and prebooked this hotel. What a delight, so comfortable, peaceful, warm, welcoming log fires, so nice in every way. Heavenly view from my room toward Rutland Water, highland cattle, fields and trees and a wonderful sun rise with the sun pouring in through my window. Had all my meals alone in my room as I needed to 'chill'. First class room attendance with perfect well mannered, respectful staff...the latter being ' rare' these days in my opinion. Would gladly return. Treat yourselves. !

Excellent Country Hotel

Posted 07-Oct-2014
Pros: Without doubt the food is to a very high standard.
Cons: A 10% service charge on a bottle of Champaign bought and drunk in the bar not appreciated, wedding guests partying with no respect to others.
Location: Walking, cycling, fishing, sailing, bird watching very rural with lots of off road tracks.
Very friendly staff, great character building excellent food and good selection of wines. Ideally located for some fresh air when taking in the sites of Rutland Water and surrounding area.

1 night stopover

Posted 02-Oct-2014
Pros: Location. The character of the place. The autumnal colours of the courtyard trees. Excellent choices on the dinner and breakfast menus.
Cons: Our room could have done with a bit of redecoration - starting to look a bit tired in places e.g. around the light switches.
A very pleasing hotel and one that we said we would like to return to for a longer stay. It has lots of character and both dinner and breakfast were excellent. Also a very good selection of wines.

Lovely hotel and staff

Posted 30-Sep-2014
Stayed for two nights... Wanted to explore Rutland waters which we did on our bikes a lovely 17 mike cycle track minutes away from the hotel.... Hotel was lovely, all the staff on reception and in the restaurant were friendly and professional... Food was amazing and reasonably priced... Room was a good size and comfortable.... The only disappointment was the cleanliness outside our room and in the hall ways cobwebs and flys ... We would come back here again though

Elegant and full of charm

Posted 21-Sep-2014
We loved our overnight stay at Barnsdale Lodge. We had a lovely, airy and spacious room which was very comfortable and looked out over attractive meadows. The hotel's highland cows completed the rural scene! Breakfast was plentiful and well presented, as well as delicious. The service was efficient more than friendly and the only gripe of our whole visit was the initial welcome. We were vaguely pointed in the direction of our room and left to bumble our way around the premises searching for it! No one else was checking in at the time and two people were on reception so it wouldn't have hurt to at least walk us to the right staircase.

Charming hotel

Posted 20-Sep-2014
Pros: Everything
Location: Perhaps a mattress-topper?
We spent two nights in the Barnsdale Lodge Hotel, having spotted it on a previous visit to Rutland four years ago. When we had cause to re-visit the area we took the opportunity to book in. The room was very well appointed, the only slight quibble being that the mattresses were a little on the firm side. The bathroom was spotless and roomy, and we were intrigued by the remote shower button. The public areas were first class and the courtyard was beautiful. Definitely a hotel to visit again.

Nice hotel.

Posted 30-Aug-2014
Pros: Comfortable. Efficient service. Nice setting.
Cons: Pricing of dinner menu.
Location: Good location for visiting BARNSDALE GArdens and Rutland water.
Enjoyed two nights at the hotel. We ate in the dining room the first night - food was tasty but a bit overpriced. Staff were very efficient. location and setting were very good.
