“Old World Charm in 2011”

This is a wonderful old style hotel. The rooms are large but it is a very old building so the floors creak and may not even be fully level. Location just off the town square is ideal. Well worth staying there

Area recommendations
Walking around the "old town" with it's narrow streets and laneways is a must You also have to spend time in the Kaethe Wohlfahrt Christmas stores (next to the hotel)

“Business trip to Rothenburg”

An old characterful hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. Room was large and reasonably well equipped. Bathroom was clean but no shower only a hand held nozzle in the bath which meant using it for a shower made a bit of a mess. View from the room across the Rothenburg valley was superb. we had breakfast and dinner in the hotel both days and would recommend it. Valet parking, even though £10 per night was very convenient and they were quick to return the car next morning when we need to go.

“A Fairy Tale Castle, a wonderful surprise. . .”

Our room took our breath away. It was unexpected and wonderful. The bed with wrap around head and footboard was comfortable, spotless and roomy, the bath huge with a large tub splendid for soaking. We got lost in the staircases and antique 16th-18th century history posted in every corner. We walked past stained glass windows in the hall to view a suit of armour and beautiful wooden chests that were used as storage on the grand staircase landings and hallways. We peeked into tiny arched doors and delighted in the dramatic sunset over the famous town wall of Rothenburg ob der Tauber from our room balcony. We were in a standard room, I wonder what a fancy room would be like. We felt transported into another time, not as peasants, but as royalty. The front desk and other staff were attentive and pleasant. The restaurant served breakfast in a high ceiling room decorated as a grand hall in an ancient castle. We thought jousting events could be held there. The breakfast was buffet with a wide selection, waffles to sausages. We could not afford to eat in the restaurant for dinner, it was quite formal, but enjoyed the bar just outside the french doors to the dinning room. International publications, and guests were all pleasant and deligjtful. We would love to stay again. Only one issue: a large tour group director constantly at the front desk, made us wait for a lengthy time for assistance every time we went to the desk, including check in and out.

Area recommendations
Do take a walk along the wall that surrounds the city, there are passages hidden and staircases that lead to interesting places. It's fun, watching people from a little window up above the street.
Getting there
If you travel by train it is much easier than it looks on the schedule. The trains connect with each other and most of the travelers are going to the same destination. Even though the 2-5 minute train changes seem alarming, they are set up to do this commute. It was much easier than anticipated even with luggage.

“Good hotel in Nordlingen”

A nice hotel in a good position. The only minus is no air conditioning in rooms which for a reasonably modern hotel was unusual. Very hot to sleep in.

“Eisenhut in Rothenburg”

This hotel is extremely old in an extremely old town. That said, it is very functional and comes with a very attentive staff. The location is terrific, the hotel is clean, and the check in and check out process was flawless.

“Simply Perfect”

When planning our trip down the Romantic Road in Germany it was difficult to decide where we should stop and where we should stay. If you are planning the same trip and have the same questions the answer is stop in Rothenburg o.d.T. and stay at the hotel Eisenhut. The hotel is beautiful, the staff above and beyond friendly and professional, the room was big and clean with a great view (stayed on the third floor in the main building), the restaurant was tasty and the buffet breakfast (especially on Sunday- but also on weekdays) was one of the best we've had anywhere. The town of Rothenburg o.d.T. is magical. The gardens are a must see as well as the museum and the walk of the city walls. The Nightwatchman's tour was hilarious, would have gladly done it twice. The drive both to and from this town is purely picturesque. Went in early October and the fall colors were just coming in and made the town and surrounding area even more amazing. We didn't want to leave when we had to go and are already planning our return to this perfect little hotel in this blissful little town in this absolutely romantic little corner of Germany. If your destination is the Romantic Road, be sure to spend at least one or two nights at the Eisenhut in R.o.d.T!

When to go
Went the first week in October. Leaves were just beginning to turn and was beautiful. I imagine that the middle of October when the leaves are in full color would be even more magical.
Getting there
Romantic Road to and from is gorgeous. Autobahns will take you in and out more quickly if you are in a rush.
Getting around
May walk to everything very easily.
Must see
City museum. walk the city walls. Gardens. Didn't go to the medieval criminal museum but heard it was great.
Dining
Don't miss the Eisenhut's Sunday buffet breakfast. I'm telling you....
Events and shows
Nightwatchman's tour every night at 8pm in English meets in the town square which is about a 1 minute walk from the Eisenhut. There is a big crowd but you can hear the nightwatchman very easily. Very entertaining! Lasts about 1 hour, no reservations or tickets required, just show up. You pay the nightwatchman directly at the end of the tour (ends back in the town square). Was 10 Euro per person I believe and you pay him on the honor system.

“Left Wanting More”

Rothenburg is a beautiful town and visiting it is definitely worthwhile. The Eisenhut is the best place to stay but it is dark, dank, and underwhelming. It is also very expensive for what it offers.

“Nostalgia Germany Trip”

My husband was stationed in Germany when he was in the Air Force and has talked about going back for a number of years. He was the one that recommended the hotel and I was so very thrilled when I read about it and was even more excited when we arrived to see that it was exactly like the pictures. I would definately recommend the hotel. We will certainly stay there again should we go back. It is right in the center of everything and withwin walking distance of the whole town.
