“The real deal”

We spent two nights at the Trianon Borgo Pio on our way to join our cruise ship. This is the place to stay to get the real feel for Rome. Great location, wonderful atmosphere, old but really adds to your Rome experience. Huge rooms we booked a small apartment but finished up with a three bedroom one, has its own kitchen, great for groups or families, old but functional, we are a couple in our 60s. Not a flash spend your cash place, find the nearest supermarket just down the street, and cook yourselves. Bells ringing, narrow lanes within 10 minutes of Saint Peters all add to the atmosphere. Great staff practice your Italian they are lovely people. We are going back.

“5 minutes from Vatican City”

Great location very close to Vatican City. The hotel is situated in quiet quater between Vatican City and Castle of St Angelo. All prime city attraction are within walk distance. Friendly english speaking staff. Newly furnished room included lcd tv plus separate kitchen (large fridge, microwave, toaster etc.) and bathroom with shower. Great place to stay for fair price.

“Quiet Oasis near the Vatican”

This was a great find in Rome! We actually had a small apartment with a bedroom and full kitchen, overlooking a quiet courtyard on a lovely side street, just steps from the Vatican. The hotel's rooftop terrace, which is being renovated, had spectacular views of St. Peter's and the Castel San Angelo. The staff was amazingly helpful, making arrangements for the Vatican tour and helping us to find a wonderful neighborhood (non touristy) restaurant for dinner. We would definitely stay here again.

“Great location, extremely spacious apartment next door to the Vatican!”

I booked Trianon Borgo Pio just by chance on the internet, after reading some good comments on the website. I highly recommend this apartment after staying there myself in early Oct 2011. The apartment block is 8-10 minutes walk to the Vatican and a major bus stop to Rome. The space in the apartment can easily sleep 4, despite advertising as a 1 bedroom place for 2 people. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a bedroom with a queen bed, and another room with 2 sofas and a tv. It even has a lift in the building! There are numerous restaurants in the next street, plus a grocery store round the corner. Staff were friendly and most helpful. The only small problem we had was that their wifi did not work. They did offer me a cable connection, but since I had only an iPad without the socket, I could not use it. There were 2 computers with internet available for people though. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back.

“Rome's Hidden Jewel”

Our stay at the Trianon Borgo Pio was incredible. We read all the reviews prior to settling on this hotel and were weary that people might be overstating their praise but everything was actually understated, the staff was great Pasquale and Elizabetha were extremely helpful calling the tour operators during our stay and the airport transport for the departure. We had a problem with the air-conditioner on the second day and we were moved to another room immediately while the a/c was repaired, the manager gave us a 48hr hop-on-hop-off bus ticket for the problem. The hotel is centrally located to everything Vatican and within 30 minutes of leisurely paced walking from every other major attraction. The hotel has a good laundry room, gym, and internet lounge. Rooms are spacious for European standards, well equipped kitchenette although the coffee maker is small (espresso maker).

Area recommendations
We only visited Rome, as that was our dream for the last 20 years, so we can wholeheartedly recommend all of it start at the Borghese gardens and Museum which is the farthest from the Vatican area, then visit the Colosseum, Forum/Palatine hill then the Trevi fountain, Spanish steps from there go to the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia, Castel St Angelo and finish at the St Peter's Basilica and Vatican Museum.
When to go
Any time is good but in August 15 the Italians go on holiday so you might not get all the services and many of the shops are closed for the rest of the month and part of September.
Getting there
You don't have to arrange for transfer from the airport if you don't want to as the train terminal is across the street from the airport and drops you at Termini station where you can take bus 40 to any hotel in Rome both will cost less than the airport shuttle.
Getting around
As soon as you get to the hotel get a hop-on-hop-off bus ticket for 48 hr and go around Rome once then hop-off at your favorite spot and catch the next bus to another spot but you can walk to at least three good attraction from the Trevi fountain stop.
What to pack
Pack light and carry-on if possible as the airports in Rome are difficult to traverse if you are in a hurry. If your hotel has a laundry room pack half, of your vacation days, of pants and shirts and a full set of underwear and socks. For 12 days we took 6 pants and shirts in a carry-on bag and got in and out of the airport in 10 minutes. Hotels carry all the toiletries needed and laundry needs if they have a laundry room.
Must see
Vatican museum. Get the guided tour from the museum website then buy an extra ticket for another day to visit on your own.
Shopping
Do not go to the outlet as the prices are not what you would expect for a U.S outlet store. Shop at the shopping triangle between the Spanish steps, Piazza Venezia, and Piazza del Popolo along Via del Corso here you will find all the big names from Gucci to Ferragamo.

“Convenient Location”

The location was very good. It is within walking distance to the Vatican which is about ¼ of a mile from the hotel. The hotel was difficult to find even for the taxi drivers. We took 2 different taxis from the Airport and both Taxis could not find the hotel because it s located in a small street. Once you have reached your hotel it is fairly easy to find. There is a small store about 25 yards away and a larger market a few block away. The rooms are spacious with a kitchenette, complete cooking utensils and a small percolator. The bathroom had a small shower, bidet and blow drier. There is a place to iron and do laundry in the basement but it has limited hours. The wireless internet rarely worked during our stay but we were able to stay connected via LAN cable in your room which worked well. The staff was overall friendly and helpful during our stay. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and would consider staying here again!

“Excellent accommodation for a family of five.”

I had an excellent package price with hotel and airplane. With that price, it was beyond our expectation. It was a pleasant surprise for the excellent location of the hotel, cleanliness and spaciousness of the room, and safety and convenience of the neibourhood. The Borgo pio street is filled with excellent restaurants and pizzaterias and it is a walking distance to Vatican. I would definitively recommend this apartment for a five star quality!

“We will stay here agan next time”

We loved having space to spread out on our vacation with our daughter. While we did not cook, it was great to have a refrigerator and the option of cooking if we wanted to. The location was fantastic - we ate dinner at one of the many restaurants on Borgo Pio each night. We cant' wait to come back.
