“Good value. Consider this comfortable hotel”

Our party was 3 adults so were put in an Executive room - 2 single beds and a comfy bed settee with plenty of space. It was in a building adjoining the main hotel - about 20yds down the street. Breakfast on the roof terrace restaurant was good but I was expecting a slightly bigger selection especially of fresh fruit but everything else was fresh. Restaurant is small for number of rooms but in December we had no problem getting a table. Location is about 20 mins walk to historic centre and 10 mins from Termini. We walked almost everywhere and felt safe in the area around the hotel. We felt that it represented excellent value for a city centre hotel.

“An outstanding Hotel in Rome”

The Hotel Mecenate Palace in a Fabulous Hotel situated in the heart of Rome. It is within walking distance of all the major sites in Rome. It is also close to shopping and some very fine restaurants. My wife and I have been staying at the Hotel Mecenate Palace for the last 6 years and we will be back there again next year. I VERY STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL to anyone traveling to Rome.

Area recommendations

“definitely will stay here again”

This hotel has excellent location. The subway station is only 5 mins walk away. We took the subway everywhere including the vatican and the coloseum. The free breakfast buffet was very good also. The coffe takes some getting use to though cause it's alot stronger than what we get here. The surrounding restaurants were good including the best gelato we've had in rome. One thing though, the satelite tv only has few channels and wifi is not free.

Area recommendations
the vatican museum, st. peter's basilica, coloseum, spanish steps, trevi fountain, campo de fiori.

“Not Bad!”

The hotel was in a pretty good location, not far from the Termini Train station. If you do not mind to walk it is not far from the main attractions in Rome. If you take the bus or train you will miss out on alot, it is best to walk everywhere. Overall not bad location and good service.

“GREAT WEEKEND IN ROME”

The Mecenate Hotel is ideally located for sight-seeing being only a short walk from the Coloseum. We were located in an apartment attached to the hotel and the decor, furniture etc. were of a high standard. Our only negative was that we had to go outside to re-enter the hotel - it would have been nice to actually have been situated in the Hotel itself. The Hotel staff are very helpful and friendly and the food at the hotel was of a high standard.

Area recommendations
Not really sure of the names of any neighbourhoods.
When to go
Visiting Rome in November the weather was really warm - I can imagine it would be very exhausting to visit the various sites in the height of summer.
Getting there
Our transfers to and from the hotel were a little hairy - In Italy they drive very fast. Watch out for zebra crossings - unless they are controlled by traffic lights- as Italian drivers don't always stop at these crossings even if you have started to cross the road.
Getting around
We used taxis a lot as we had a short time in Rome. Apart from on,e they were all very reasonable and used the meters. We also took the hop on hop off bus which goes to all the sites of interest and you can spend as long or as short a time as you wish at each place.
What to pack
Cool, loose fitting clothes and very comfortable shoes. There is lots of walking to do and LOTS OF STEPS!
Must see
The Coloseum, the Pantheon and the general architecture of the buildings in Rome. They are awe inspiring.
Shopping
Some regions of the city have some wonderful shops but some of them are very expensive. As a rule if the shop window did not display prices we did not enter. Lovely shoes and leather goods on sale.
Dining
Look for the restaurants situated off the main areas - these tend to be cheaper and very authentic. Restaurants in the busy squares are quite expensive! Service is much slower in Italy and laid back.
Outdoors or beach
There are some areas of Rome, as in any city, which I would not want to go into at night - we stuck to the main areas.

“Fine Hotel--Great Location”

We stayed for 3 nights at the Mecenate Palace as we awaited boarding a cruise. The hotel staff at all levels was outstanding in that they responded to various requests in good order. I doubt that there's a much better location for a Rome hotel as it is in the center for town and right on the subway system. Buses are also at the doorstep.

Getting around
Travel hint: the limos tht the hotel recommends are pricey but that's the deal in Rome when you're goping to/from airport/cruise term/Rome. It's a racket/shakedown. I recommend you negotiate with a Rome taxi to get a better deal and save your self at least 50 Euro in the process.

“Great hotel in great location”

We had an overall fab stay at Mecenate Palace Hotel in Rome. It was in an excellent location, very central and we walked almost everywhere in Rome. It was only a couple of blocks (5 min walk) from the Termini train station, which is where we got the Leonardo Express train from the airport. The service was excellent, we had no problems at all with checkin in or checking out. The room was perfect for what we needed, bathroom was huge, and shower was fabulous. There are many cafes and restaurants around the area of the hotel as well, so every night it was not hard to find somewhere to eat for dinner. If you plan to use the metro, which we did to get to the Vatican, there is a metro station on the same street as the hotel. Also the hop on hop off bus tours all stop close by to the hotel, on the side of the church across the street from hotel. It felt a safe area during the night, as always lots of people around. And even though there was quite a lot of traffic on the streets below, this did not bother us in out hotel room as it was all double glazed windows. The breakfast buffet had a good selection of cereals, frutis, pastries, hams, cheeses, yoghurt, juice etc. And you could pay extra if you wanted a hot breakfast. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning to stay in Rome.

“A very pleasant hotel”

Mecenate palce is a very nice hotel, which is well located for a sight seeing trip to Rome. It is very close to the main railway station and overlooks the impressive Basilica of Saint Maria Maggiore and there are excellent views from the rooftop terrace. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and well decorated, although fairly small in size. Overall our stay was a pleasant experience and I would recommend this hotel to others.

Area recommendations
Rome is such a lovely City with plenty to do and see. an excellent way of seeing the main tourist sights is to use the hop on hop off Rome Open Tour. A 48 hour ticket is very good value.
