“Good location, nice people”
Whilst we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel, the location and majority of staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. However, bearing in mind that their were 2 seniors (over 65) in our party of which the hotel was obviously aware, we were still located in the annexe of the hotel which meant that our rooms were on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The annexe has narrow winding stairs from the 1st & 2nd floors with no lift which meant struggling up these stairs with suitcases and again each day after long day sightseeing. The continental breakfast was excellent, but the young waitress could try smiling occasionally.
“Hotel Teatro di Pompeo - the annexe, breakfast and excellent coffee”
Loved the location (everything is so close by but it still feels secluded) , and the staff were amenable. We were not warned, however, that the annexe had lots of very steep stairs, and neither on arrival were we offered any assistance with our bags. The twisty parts are quite narrow and would have been dangerous with large cases. LUCKILY we had packed very light with hand luggage only. DO NOT consider the annexe if you have mobility problems. The stairs were enough of a problem to make us consider what we were going to do for the day so that we wouldn't have to keep going up and down them. Had we been informed about the exact nature of the annexe we would not have booked it. It is also a shame not to feel part of such a historical building as the Hotel Teatro di Pompeo. Having said that, once in the annexe, it was roomy, clean and comfortable. It was pretty dark because of the small windows, but we only used it during the day for a siesta so for that purpose it was perfect. The breakfast was very good. My partner has many food intolerances and, although we hadn't specified these, the choice was varied enough that there were items he could eat and plenty of them. The coffee was superb. We did find it amusing that the staff checked EVERY morning that we did want espresso. We booked the car from and back to the airport through Expedia - the driver had no problem finding it and we were amazed at the tiny streets he was able to negotiate.
“Excellent Location for Rome Activities”
We stayed in an "annex" double room which was excellent - clean, nice shower and reasonable size. It required going up a couple narrow stairways with our luggage (no elevator in the annex) but that was acceptable. Free breakfast was included. The hotel staff spoke enough English so there was never a communication problem. The best aspect was the central location. The hotel is very close to both Piazza Campo d' Fiori and Piazza Navona, both vibrant areas with festivals, numerous cafe's, etc. It's a very easy walk to the Pantheon, Trevi fountain and the Trestavere region. There's also a great pizza, panini and pastry shop just a few hundred feet from the hotel. It was excellent and always mobbed with locals. You must stop there for a lunch or snack. The Teatro di Pompeo hotel is a great place to experience what it's like to live in Rome.
“Perfect Location”
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The central location was perfect for walking in Rome. There is a elevator and we stayed in the main section on the 2nd floor. The area and maze of streets surrounding the hotel can be confusing. The breakfast was great and we fueled up each day, packing a few items for later snacks. Checking the world news at the end of each day was a waste, as the TV had a mind of it's own, but hey we were on vacation. The shower was a better one compared to our 14 day stay in the country. We spent 5 days in Rome. A quiet location, we could fall into bed for an afternoon nap, shower and off to dinner and the nighttime activities at Campo di Fiori Piazza.
“Apartment-style stay with hotel amenities”
We stayed at this hotel for 11 nights in July 2011. We stayed in Room 2 in the 'Annex', the largest of the 2 rooms in the apartment-style lodgings located just seconds from the main hotel. We loved this arrangement because we had privacy yet we enjoyed the services of being in a hotel. Pros: - Fabulous Location: Just a 2 minute walk to the the heart of Campo di Fiori but on a quiet street. - Complementary Breakfast: absolutely sufficient to get you on your way - salami, cheeses, yoghurt, breads, hard boiled eggs, cereals, cakes, fruit, etc. There is a barista who will also make and bring you cappuccinos, espressos, teas. - Friendly and Helpful Staff - Everyone we encountered was very friendly and open to help with advice and assistance. We had an issue with our airport shuttle and Americo (sp?) was incredibly patient and helpful in sorting out the issue by calling the company repeatedly and resolving the issue. - Spacious and lovely room - the room where we stayed was very large and bright with huge windows and lots of storage space. - Air Conditioning - Worked perfectly Cons: - If you have mobility issues, you should be specific and request that you stay in the main hotel. I counted 50 stairs up to our room. - the mattress (in our room at least) was incredibly hard. - TV didn't work - Internet not available in our room - only on computer in main hotel (not free, but not expensive) Those 'negatives' wouldn't prevent us from staying here again in the future.
“Ideal for city breaks”
On arrival, the hotel and the annexe area look a little shabby to be frank but you soon realise that this is typical of all the buildings in the area - a sort of shabby chic prevails. The hotel reception, breakfast room and toilets are spotlessly clean. Our party consisted of three adult couples and we were all lodged in the annexe which is actually a converted apartment about 50 metres across the square from the hotel. On entering, the first thing we saw were two waste bins and the impression was not good. On climbing (and I mean that) the narrow, twisty stairs we arrived at our rooms which were excellent. Clean, comfortable, well appointed, air conditioned and with a good view. Can't fault them. Rooms were well cleaned each day. Breakfast was good, comprising a buffet style meal with cheese/meats/yoghurts/fruit/bread etc plus good coffee. For a B+B, we all agreed it was very good. Best of all however is the location for visitors on a city break. 1 minute walk to the main road with good buses. Piazza Navona 10 mins on foot, Pantheon 20 mins, Colosseum 10 mins on a bus and Vatican 10 mins in the other direction. Brilliant! Remember there is a lot to see and do on foot within 5-10 minutes of the hotel to do think about staying locally on some days. The proximity of the hotel also meant that when we got tired or needed to freshen up (it was hot and sticky), it was easy to pop back to the room without spoiling the itinerary for the day.
“Hotel Pompeo in the heart on Rome”
Great little hotel in the heart of historic Rome. Nice size rooms by European standards, and a nice breakfast in the a room that dates back to the Roman times. This place is a little hidden gem that is literally a walk to all the top sites. Free Wi-Fi and a freindly staff.
“Beware the Annex”
We occupied the top room in the annex -- 50 stair steps by actual count, no elevator.
“A Qwirky hotel”
An interesting building, the foundations are very old. Our bedroom was on the smallish side and the beds appeared narrower than usual. The safe was behind a picture! The daytime and evening reception were very friendly and gave us lots of useful information. The one let down was the breakfast service. At 9am on each of our four night stay there was limited food available, and on two occassions no croissants and we had to ask for rolls. At no stage were the tables cleared from the previous diners so looked very uninviting. Having said that the hotel is in a lovely position and we would stay there again,
“Very convenient location”

Navona - Pantheon, Rome, Italy: In the heart of the historic centre, Piazza Navona is Romes most famous square. Like a giant stage set, this is where the theatre of daily Roman life is re-enacted among the café tables that spill out onto the fountain-splashed piazza. Berninis baroque extravaganza, the Fontana dei Quattro Fiume, is the most celebrated of the three fountains. Nearby is the Pantheon one of Romes great symbols and a marvel of ancient architecture.
